Do you know the meaning of each of the gifts given to the Christ child by the Magi?

The Magi did not give Jesus random gifts. Each one had a much greater purpose and significance at the time, and are still relevant to us as Catholics today.

While their names are not revealed in the Bible, the Magi were learned and wise men.

Melchior gave the gift of gold which points to Jesus’ royalty and his kingship.

Gaspar gave the gift of frankincense, a blend of resins used in acts of worship, symbolizing that Jesus is worthy of our praise and adoration.

And Balthazar gave the myrrh,. which is a burial perfume, an anointing symbolizing the future death of a king.
