A few 📸 from Rotan’s late night victory vs. Loraine yesterday. An hour and a half weather delay couldn’t stop the Yellowhammers from coming away with a big win on the road 44-26. Great job Hammers! They’ll be back on the road this coming Friday against Knox City.

Taking a quick look back at this past weekend in Roby. The 82nd Annual Fisher County Fair & Rodeo kicked off with Mutton Bustin’ prelims on Thursday evening. Tip of the hat to all who competed over the course of the weekend. There’s no shortage of guts and determination in our local youth that’s for sure. You all did great!
On Friday, in addition to night one of the rodeo, the Roby Lion Football team took down the Ira Bulldogs in decisive fashion 65-38 to open up the season! Well done Pride!
And on Saturday things wrapped up with the Parade & Fair, and a memorable night 2 of rodeo action. This was one for the books alright! Things are only gettin bigger and better! We can’t wait to see what’s in store next year! Till then, we tip our hats to you Fisher County!

UPDATE the Meeting that was scheduled for TONIGHT has been CANCELED - Apparently, tonight’s Rotan City Council meeting moved. The notice did, too.

Earlier today, the Double Mountain Chronicle photographed the special-called meeting notice posted at Rotan City Hall. It advertised a City Council meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 1 (what was stated as 2 handwritten over the 1, we will let you decide) at 7 p.m.

The editor returned to City Hall approximately 10 minutes before the advertised meeting time.

There was no council meeting.

There was, however, a different notice on the window.

The new version now schedules the same meeting for Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., with Tuesday now scratched out and “Wednesday” handwritten onto the notice.

Here's the interesting part:
Both notices state they were posted Aug. 26 at 4:45 p.m.

Our photographs, taken several hours apart today, document that the Sept. 2 version was not the notice physically posted at City Hall around noon today.

Why does that matter?

Texas Government Code §551.043 now generally requires public meeting notices to be posted for at least three business days before the scheduled meeting date. That requirement became effective exactly one year ago today, Sept. 1, 2025.

Texas law does allow a governmental body that actually convenes an open meeting to recess it until the following regular business day without starting the notice period over.

But no Rotan City Council meeting convened tonight.
So we have some questions.

We also haven't forgotten that tomorrow's agenda includes a FY 2026-27 budget workshop, which carries some additional notice requirements of its own under the law that took effect last Sept. 1. (2025)

For now, we'll just leave the two photographs here.

We'll keep you posted.

I wonder how many local governmental entities checked the new statutes before this year’s budget season?

Anyone know what we are talking about?
