🎥🔥 Here’s a raw clip from our recent show at Batch Brewing in Detroit, debuting one of our newest tracks "Alone." The energy was electric, and the room was alive with every note. The rhythm hits so hard on this one even the camera was nodding along. If you weren’t there, here’s a taste of what went down—just the beginning of something big.So, turn up the volume and dive into this clip! Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments! Who else is excited to see where West of Windsor is headed next? 🎶***

Being 90s kids, bands like Pixies and Nirvana are part of our DNA.

And not only as indie rock musicians, but also recordists, Steve Albini is definitely part of our music family tree.

That’s the amazing thing about music...or any art for that matter. It’s influence stretches wide, wider than you would ever imagine - and through it part of us lives on long after we’re gone.

Steve, sad to see you go, but we’ll give some great albums a spin and think of you.

It’s been radio silence for us…so we could make some noise.

I know we’ve been quiet on the socials, but it’s so we could get back to the good stuff - making some great music. And while I can’t quite share it with you yet, I can give a sneak peek at the artwork from some upcoming releases.

In 2024, we’re going EDM. Pop. Indie Rock. Jangle Pop. Stoner Rock. Singer-Songwriter.

Thrilled to share it with you before too long! Maybe will let some sneak listens out to our email list…

This pickture (see what I did there?) might not look that striking, but for me it is a major achievement.

I borrowed this tip from the great James Clear and making your progress towards a habit tangible and visible by placing a paperclip (or in this case guitar pick) in a receptacle of choice every time you get a rep in for whatever habit you are trying to build.

For me - I want to really increase my output of music as well as hone my skills of writing and recording, so everytime I work on either I took a pick from the glass on the left, and placed it in the one on the right.

So that glass is definitely “half-full” with progress. Every pick, a vote for the person I want to be - and a lot of music coming as a result. I’m so proud of that glass of picks and even more proud of the empty glass next to it!

Hope you guys get to cast some votes for yourself today.

I’m just going to say it: This song has some Olympic-level wordplay.

In full confession, I may be biased 😏 but you also have to celebrate the songs you’re proud of. Annnnd this here piano pop-rock gem is one of my favorite Red Herring tunes for its witty lyrics that also captured the core of the whole quarter life crisis the album is centered around.

In this carousel, we unpack just a bite of one of the verses and break it down...but if you want the FULL breakdown, check out our podcast episode on the song and the lyric video on our Youtube.

Just comment “podcast” and we’ll DM you the link to the podcast and the lyric video! 🎙️ 🤟🏻

If you want to write better songs...
..learn covers.

I like this strategy of practice because it's fun and inspiring because it's something novel - I love my songs but if you play them over and over again they can start to seem dusty and old. Or you can fall into a rut, churning out the same songs in only mildly different forms.

Learning covers teaches you new voicings, tricks, ways to thing about songwriting or arrangement you can apply to your original music (and you will).

I never took (beyond a few) music lessons - I learned by learning songs. Whatever I was turned on to. This inspired my eclectic style and was always challenging in a new way - similar to rotating in new exercises at the gym (or so I hear from...people that go to the gym)

And...because it's fun and novel it keeps you coming back to practice more which will only help you get better at your instrument. Better at your craft. Making better, more interesting art.

What's the last cover you learned? Throw it in the comments below ⬇️

Beginning a year of incremental wins. 🎤 📈 🎵

(Early I know)

Absolutely, the biggest goal for 2024 is....make more music. 🎵 🔥

I've been re-reading Atomic Habits and it has been giving me the inspiration and jumpstart to tackle this goal and....why wait til New Years? Let's get this resolution now!!

So today I am making a commitment to regularly get in the studio - even if it's literally only walking down there and hanging around for a minute. But consistency before intensity - and even if there's a lot of mediocre music churned out along the way, I'll learn from every time, every experiment, pick up one thing. An X in the box, a pick in the glass.

Because 1% better every day = 37x better by the end of the year.

So let's get this year started. Do you have one thing you want to do more of in 2024? Let us know in the comments below ⬇️ 🙌🏻

Who else is guilty of this? (Aside from me constantly)

We all put so much work into our craft and whether it's a single, an album, cover artwork for an EP or a live performance reel you've been obsessing over....they're all our babies. At least that's how I feel often and I'm certain I'm not alone. You end up putting not just your time and effort but so much of yourself into your work that...well, it's a pretty vulnerable thing at times being a creative.

You're sharing yourself. So of course you want it to be perfect, right? You don't want someone trolling or digging at you. We already have to overcome the voice in our head being our own worst critic.

And while I'm all for making quality works and taking pride in your music, sometimes...you just gotta finish and move forward. Because here's the secret - perfect doesn't exist in the real human world. It's all subjective too. Get things to a place where you're happy with it but don't agonize too much.

Every project your finish you learn something if not a whole chapter in the book of your career. Every finished project you are better for. And no matter what you think of it...I bet you there are people out there that are going to enjoy and appreciate it.

What's the last thing big or small you finished? What's the next thing you want to finish?? Let us know in the comments 🔽

Today we honor a true ambassador of surf: James Riley.

If you are a fan of surf rock, no doubt you have heard his radio show, Catching A Wave and if you haven't....you're in for a treat. You'll get a great mix of classic surf rock, The Beach Boys, other music from that time frame but also brand spankin-new surf bands 🤙🏻 🌊

He's been a great friend to Spaghetti Records, The Dwellers and I can vouch first hand - just a nice guy who loves music. And who doesn't love that?? So check out his show Catching A Wave immediately - but only if you want your day to get better.
