Tip Tuesday: how we feed our babies that aren’t living with mom, or are smaller than the others… (keep them up with an extra feeding so they don’t get smaller than others in the litter, then they’ll never beat a litter mate to a teet if they’re half the size, eventually you lose them🥹

This is BB’s “Shady Girl” aka “Crackhead” & her 4 babies.

The babies have hair now and Carlie still says 3 smoked pearls, but one is way lighter than the other two. Is it a lighter shade of SP?? Yall color experts take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Did I say after last week that I was sleeping in on Sunday?? 🙄. Guess I had forgotten Carlie wanted to come home from the dance early so we could show heifers Sunday in the 108 heat index barn😳.

Worth it I guess! Carlie got her 1st ever Buckle for a heifer. It was a bucket list goal. Once again the judge had really great things to say about Lauralai. She needs to fill out but we want her to peek for the Majors and not now just to win buckles so Carlie is following all the rules.

She got pulled for showmanship but she used Lauralai instead of Ethel to give her the ring time she needs. She was NOT walking yesterday more than a couple feet then had to get prodded on. Once she was posed, she walks right in her pose and stands beautifully still. She was easier last show for sure but yesterday… maybe it was the heat but she did NOT want to walk. Of course Ethel did her job like always and it’s always her front end and neck that keeps her from moving up. Doesn’t matter to Carlie.. Ethel was her first Hereford, they bonded and love each other and Carlie Loves showing her. She’s due to calf in December so we look forward to having a little Ethel around🥰.

Last week about did me in. I have so much to tell yall so we’ll start with Longview’s Cajuns & Cowboys show.
Carlie didn’t make the show because it was homecoming but we took her lineup Friday night & stayed for Saturday morning show only then head home to host her gfs getting dressed for the dance at our home🥰

1st- HUGE SHOUT OUT to Kaylee, Kennedy & Chloe also on Saturday for being amazing friends to Carlie and getting her buns on/off the table. Kaylee was amazing for sure and new on the scene in Hollands as of January this year. I can’t wait for yall to watch this kids progress. She’s only in middle school.

Get to it.. there was 92 youth hollands entered by Thursday night so not sure the final number but around 100.

Friday Show A- judge Kathy
1st SSB & BOV- BEAUX
1st SSD- BB’s Hot Pants- (young Senior Doe- bred her at 6 months and we just weened her first litter.)

2nd of 13 SJD- BB’s “Family Buck”
1st BSB & BOV- BB’s “Denium” (finally hit 2 yo, left Oak at home. Denium was the last litter produced by Queen’s “Wrangler” with BB’s Cut Ear- for us. This buck reminds me of wranglers daddy- BB’s “Hearts On The Line’s” sire. So proud the legacy lives on🥰.

1st BSD- BB’s “Heart’s On The Line” (BB’s Daddy’s Girl took 2nd to her.. same as 2025 Convention)
2nd BJB- made his debut- BB’s “Giddy Up”
-We did not have a BJD to enter.

Super excited about her juniors. They are all very young, bred for convention but we wanted table time & looking for consistency in their placings before convention entries. We got that & now they just need to grow up a little & finish these coats🫣🥰

Wish we had pics of all these babies but the weekend was a blur. We raced out to head home.

Best of Breed & BOSB wins & all the other kids who each did very well. Gotta love the Holland Kids. This side of heaven will never be perfect, gonna be exceptions to the rule always, but the youth in hollands are so supportive of each other. To be so competitive they are a group of classy stand out kids everywhere we go… and yall know we travel the country with these buns. Biggest Congrats for this to all. It was great seeing so many we’ve missed over the summer. ❤️😘

Our Girls “Last HOCO”. I had to share with her friends❤️
For our “out of state friends” Texas HOCO tradition means MUMS for the big game. And like everything else in TEXAS.. they just keep getting bigger.

Not only am I doing another “last” but because of HOCO, Carlie won’t be with us in Longview🥹. She was up till after midnight getting her show team ready but it’ll be her good friends & kiddos she loves & mentors who will graciously get her team on the table. Ty to my village .. my friends who helped me make her mum & all the people who have helped us during this last year of FFA. Being on chapter & district FFA officer teams has split Pudd’s time but her Friends are helping her try to finish strong and not putting competition in front of relationships❤️. Love yall all so much! 🥹🫶🏻 safe travels and see you in a few hours.

Bucks like this are my favorite. He is NOT an easy poser on the table. He might never love to show but he’s got a body I’d breed to everything in the barn.

As our herd bucks age… I wanna hold onto EVERYONE like this and grow them out 😵‍💫🤯. Im the fence for this guy.😬. I know I need to cut numbers but then I look at him in what is “his uglies” and think.. wow.

Bonus: Double Dose was produced from a line breed back to QuietCreeks “Panther”. Our Reg GC solid black buck who was on our show team, my personal favorite to breed cause he could and would breed Any doe & give you 3 falloff’s in under 10 minutes. He was a the sweetest lovebug AND he is responsible for the quality shaded hollands in our herd🥰. We lost him in December 🥹, so I bred his son/grandson and got this boy… our Perfect Ride! I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy throws sable points 🥰.

Broken Black Junior Buck - I’ll have to get the DOB but I think he’s prob 4-5 months.
***We will be going to Longview this weekend at Cajuns & Cowboys***

Molty on his head right now so crown looks short but he has a nice HEC, good bone, shoulders and full to the hindquarters. Also short in body. Negatives- she thinks he has a flat spot just over the topline & could have slightly shorter front limbs. He’s not got LONG limbs but he’s not on his toes. He’s not an easy poser. Needs work. 😉.
