UPDATE: The Franklin County Community School Corporation has provided an update following this morning’s incident in which a school bus slid off State Road 229 and came to rest safely off the roadway.

Upon review of the bus video, officials confirmed that no cornfields were damaged, as the bus came to a stop in a yard rather than a field. The review also determined that no speeding was involved in the incident.

“All students on board were amazing throughout the process,” the district shared in its update on Oct. 7.

School Bus Slides Off Road; No Injuries Reported

Franklin County, Ind. — According to school officials, a Franklin County Community School Corporation bus “overshot a curve” on State Road 229 this morning, coming to rest safely in a nearby cornfield.

All students on board were unharmed and were transferred to another bus to complete their route. Law enforcement responded to the scene and assisted as part of standard procedure.

“All families of students on the bus have been contacted through our notification system,” the district stated. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, and we are grateful for the quick response of our driver, first responders, and staff.”

The school’s transportation team is reviewing the incident and ensuring all safety procedures were followed.
