Billy Poole was a man who wore many hats, and he wore them all with honor. Throughout his life and career, he faced challenges head-onโ€”serving bravely across law enforcement, the fire service, and acting as a fierce advocate for his community. To those of us on the other end of the radio, Billy wasn't just a unit number on a screen. He was a trusted protector on the scene, a dedicated public servant, and above all, a wonderful friend. No matter how tough the shift, knowing Billy was out there brought a sense of comfort to us all.Our thoughts, love, and deepest prayers go out to his family, friends, and everyone in the first responder community who is grieving this immense loss. Billy you will be deeply missed.

Logan County School Board Approves Bids for CTC Addition Project

At its May 28, 2026, special-called meeting, the Logan County School Board officially approved bids for the expansion of the Logan County Career and Technical Center (CTC), marking a major milestone in the districtโ€™s efforts to expand workforce training opportunities for students across the region. The total bid package for the project was approved at $10,356,702. In spring 2025, the Logan County Board of Education was awarded a $9,954,829 grant to support the expansion. With accumulated interest earnings on the grant, the district now has sufficient funding to cover the full cost of the project without the use of local district funds. The expansion will include the addition of a diesel technology lab and a plumbing lab, creating two new career pathways for students pursuing high-demand skilled trades careers. Civil construction work on the project could begin as early as next week.

Superintendent Dr. Dan Costellow said the project represents an important investment in both students and the future workforce needs of the region. โ€œThis is an exciting next step in the process of adding two additional pathways to the already existing ten programs that we have for students,โ€ said Dr. Costellow. โ€œThe diesel and plumbing programs will not only provide career opportunities for thousands of students in the Logan County, Russellville Independent, and Todd County school districts, but will also provide additional trained workers to support the economic development and growth of the entire south central Kentucky region.โ€

Since opening in 2018, the Logan County CTC has served as a regional leader in career and technical education, offering students hands-on learning opportunities and industry-focused training programs. Through partnerships with local school districts, business leaders, and industry partners, the center continues to prepare students for both immediate workforce entry and postsecondary education opportunities in high-demand career fields.
