A flash flood swept over an area, stranding a man in his house. As the water rose, a rescue team came by in a boat. "Get in," the rescuers said. "We'll take you to safety. "No," said the man. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me." The rains continued and soon the man was forced up onto his roof to avoid drowning. Soon, another boat came by. "Sir, please get in," the rescuers in this boat said. "The waters are rising. We'll take you to safety. "No," said the man again. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me." The boat left, and soon the man was barely able to keep his head above the water. The water became rougher and a helicopter was dispatched to save the man. "We'll lower a rope. Get in the copter!" yelled the rescuers from above. "The water shows no sign of abating. You're sure to drown!" Once again, the man refused. "I have faith in the Lord," he said calmly. "He will save me." Eventually, the man did, in fact, drown. When he got to heaven, he saw the Lord and approached him. "What happened?" asked the man. I had faith that you would save me from drowning. Why didn't you?" "Hey," replied the Lord. "I sent two boats and a helicopter. What else did you want?"

An 8-‐year-‐old girl went to her dad, who was working in the yard. She asked him, "Daddy, what is s*x?"

The father was surprised that she would ask such a question, but decides that if she is old enough to ask the question, then she is old enough to get a straight answer. He proceeded to tell her all about the 'birds and the bees'. When he finished explaining, the little girl was looking at him with her mouth hanging open.

The father asked her, "Why did you ask this question?" The little girl replied, "Mom told me to tell you that dinner would be ready in just a couple of secs."

HOW OLD IS YOUR CAR IN HUMAN YEARS?
Mickey Alexander and The Peach Morning Show

Remember how much we have fun trying to figure out how old our dogs is in human years? Here's a fun one I came across online - figuring out how old your car is, in "people-years." Here’s the formula:

• Take the mileage on the car's odometer and divide by the model year.
• The result is your car's age if it were a person.
• Example: a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier with 131,824 miles on it.
• Do the math: 131824/1994 = 66.1.
• That car would be a 66 year old person

A newly ordained priest is nervous about hearing confessions and asks an older priest to observe one of his sessions to give him some tips. After a few minutes of listening, the old priest suggests that they have a word. "I've got a few suggestions, "he says. "Try folding your arms over your chest and rub your chin with one hand. "The new priest tries this. "Very good," says his senior. "now try saying things like 'I see' ,'I understand' and 'Yes, go on.'" The younger priest practices these sayings, too. "Well done," says the older priest. "Don't you think that's better than slapping your knee and saying, 'No way! What happened next?'"

SAIL of Lincoln Parish Media Day

Media Day classroom time was held at Courtyard by Marriott Ruston. The day began with the students completing a “Be a Leader” worksheet followed by a group discussion of their class project. Afterwards, S.A.I.L.’s title sponsor, Centric Federal Credit Union presented Biz Kid$, a financial initiative that educates children on money and business.

For media specific learning, the class traveled to Red Peach Radio The Peach 99.3 & Z107.5 for a tour and visited with the manager, Chuck Redden. They then met with Jerry Pye, the publisher of Ruston Daily Leader and toured the facility.

Back at Courtyard, the hotel provided lunch for the group before they were dismissed to return to their schools. We appreciate all the participants for making this day such a success.

Next month will focus on education. The students will also team up and help decorate at Lincoln Lights Up the Pines, Ruston’s Christmas lights drive-thru display in Lincoln Parish Park.

S.A.I.L. 2021-22 is sponsored by Centric Federal Credit Union. Travel/transportation is sponsored by Skip Russell State Farm Agent and t-shirts were sponsored by Raising Cane's #033. S.A.I.L. is an organization for “Students Actively Involved in Leadership.” Through S.A.I.L., each participant is actively involved in monthly tours of area businesses, organizations, and institutions that represent our community in an outstanding manner. Community leaders also offer insights into how the youth within our schools can make productive and positive change within their neighborhood while giving back in various ways throughout the community. S.A.I.L. is a program of the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

Moving onto the stage next is Alexis Nestrud.

Alexis Nestrud was born in Minnesota and moved to Florida when she was three, but has primarily lived in Ruston since she was 10. For her senior high school year, she relocated to Natchitoches to attend Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts where she focused on sociology and history, thinking she would go into one of those two fields. She attended Louisiana Tech University for her freshman year but transferred to Northwestern State University to be near friends, and is currently majoring in sociology. She loves to learn and can often be found reading a book or writing a story.

Her real passion though is singing. Alexis has always loved to sing. She says it’s honestly hard to get her to stop. She fell in love with theatre when her grandmother took her to the Nutcracker Ballet in Washington, DC when she was very young. That love was reignited when she went to see the Phantom of the Opera in Houston for her 16th Birthday. Since then, she has found that her favorite musical style is Broadway and is almost always singing a Broadway song. She has also followed that passion for singing and theatre by acting in a few local events including Grease and several musical productions at First Baptist Ruston. One day she hopes to use her degree and her passion to make a difference in the lives of children.

If you would like join the fun and cheer for Alexis, tickets are still available. We have sold out of our tables for 4.

Our next contestant, singing her way onto the Fashion Karaoke Stage is Kamryn Murphy.

Kamryn grew up in the small town of Amite in south Louisiana. At a young age she began performing in church, around town at fairs and festivals, as well as places as far as Los Angeles, California and Memphis, Tennessee. She has also been asked to perform the National Anthem for numerous universities and public events across the state of Louisiana. She was a part of her hometown church’s praise team and traveled across the country on missions, sharing the gospel through worship, as well as leading regularly in Sunday morning worship services.

With a growing interest in the music industry and performing, she began pursuing a Music Industry Studies degree at Louisiana Tech University’s School of Music. While there, she received numerous honors and awards. She was awarded Outstanding Vocalist of the Year at the 2019 Louisiana Tech School of Music Honors Recital. The same year, she won the Louisiana Tech Talent Show with a performance of “I Will Always Love You,” in the style of Whitney Houston. She then went on to place First Runner Up at the Miss Louisiana Tech Competition. She is a founding member and former president of the Louisiana Tech Music Society. She currently serves as President of Tech Yeah Records, Louisiana Tech’s newly found student-run record label. As president, she manages both of Tech’s student-run record labels, Tech Yeah Records and Ever Loyal Records, in addition to the holding company Ever Loyal Music Group.

This summer, Kamryn lived in Nashville, Tennessee, where she interned with a branch of the Brentwood Baptist Church. In addition to being a part of their regular Sunday morning worship services, she is writing and recording Contemporary Christian Music for their praise team. She is looking forward to recording and releasing her first EP, as a part of her senior project this coming year. She will also perform multiple senior recitals, where she plans to showcase her classical vocal training, as well as her talent as a commercial music singer-songwriter and performer. Upon her graduation in May of 2022, Kamryn plans to move to Tennessee and pursue her solo career.
