Hmong Innovating Politics, a Sacramento-based nonprofit organization, has partnered with Asian Law Caucus to open a housing and workers' right legal clinic in the Maple Neighborhood Center, in Sacramento.

"There's a huge need because many of our community members, especially immigrants and low-income families, they face unique barriers when navigating the legal system, such as housing instability and unfair labor practices. These are real challenges, but people often don't know what their rights are and where to turn for help,” explained Cassidy Vang community advocacy organizer at Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP).

A key advantage the legal clinic offers, Vang said, is the ability to provide services in language, offer interpreter access, and understand cultural subtilties, which helps ensure clients feel understood and supported.

Do you know the impact of the new changes for Medicaid users?

Over 14 million Californian residents, or about one-third of the state’s population rely on Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program.

The Medi-Cal program serves children, older adults, people with disabilities, pregnant women and millions of low-income Californians.

“Regardless of where those changes come from, what matters most is how these changes affect members and what they need to do to stay covered under Medi-Cal,” Sadwith said.
