The Year 2000 was an interesting year. I moved from Tucson, AZ to the SF Bay Area. I worked as a contractor at a place called Chiron in Emeryville (West Oakland). And I would venture into the city (SF) after work sometimes. This photo is from one of those nights, when I visited the Starlight Room, at the top of what used to be the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco. The place has been renovated since then, but is still open, under a new name, and I believe the hotel name changed. I was 24 years old and still learning about alcoholic beverages. I ordered an apple martini (appletini) because it's what the lady who was ahead of me in line at the counter ordered. Ha!

That time, we built a house for one of my sisters who was in need of permanent shelter -- Spring 2019. And we volunteered our time, money, and skills. I am still super proud of my son, Tariq, for being up to the task. During our drive back to the rez to do this project, he kept asking me, "Mom, so, we're going to build a house for Auntie? How, exactly?" My answer to him was "Faith, Sweat, and Determination." It was a lesson I was trying to teach him about stepping out on faith and knowing you will accomplish a goal (big or small). You have to KNOW you can do it. Nobody else can KNOW that for you.
