🦷 Dental Assistant Recognition Week — A Little History

Every year during the first full week in March, we celebrate Dental Assistants Recognition Week — a special week dedicated to honoring the vital contributions of dental assistants.

Dental Assistants Recognition Week was created in 1977 by the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) as an official time to acknowledge and thank dental assistants for their many roles in the dental team.

But the story goes back even further.

The American Dental Assistants Association was founded in 1924 to advance the profession and support those working in dental assisting.

And, long before dental assisting was a recognized profession, assistants in dental practices were commonly called “ladies in attendance,” a term used in the late 19th century as women first began assisting dentists.

From those early “ladies” to today’s highly skilled clinical professionals, dental assistants have always been essential to patient care and practice success.

This week, we honor the profession’s history —
and the professionals who continue to shape it.

The extra sterilty check before the first patient arrives.
The quiet correction that prevents a compliance issue.
The subtle reassurance to a nervous patient.
The reset that keeps the schedule from unraveling.
The charting detail that protects the practice later.

Dental Assistants are true Heroes —
steady, observant, anticipating what’s needed next.

They don’t always get the spotlight.
But they are the reason everything runs smoothly.

This week, recognize and appreciate them. It’s time to put the ones behind the scenes in the spotlight.

💙 From The Compliance Divas — we see you.
