SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN)— Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and multiple traffic violations near Watt Avenue and Don Julio Boulevard, according to a media release from Sergeant Amar Gandhi, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the driver, identified as 57-year-old Kenneth Earl Steinberger, failed to stop and led them on a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on the freeway.
A tire deflation device was successfully deployed, disabling the vehicle and bringing the pursuit to an end. Steinberger was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
The pursuit ended on Interstate 80 between the Interstate 5 split and the West El Camino Avenue exit, when Steinberger’s vehicle, spewing sparks, running on the rims, lost control and crashed into the center divider.
”His booking photo cannot be released per California law.” Gandhi added.
