This is KIFU, the silverback gorilla I’ve known my whole life, and we’ve built a completely natural bond 🫶🦍. He’s so cheeky — I always carry food in my pockets, and he steals it all, making sure none of the others (even his wife!) get any 😅.
‼️ For those unaware, this video was filmed at our sanctuary, where we rescue and rewild animals 🦍🌳🌍. We’re the only organization in the world to have successfully returned a gorilla to the wild — now nearly 80 live freely ❤️🔥. Our survival rate is 96%, and we’ve rewilded almost 2,000 animals 💘.
Animals don’t belong in cages; they belong in the wild. We oppose zoos. Kifu remains at our sanctuary because his wives, who are slightly older, need medical care three times a day and couldn’t survive the trip back to Africa. Gorillas live in family groups, so sending him alone would be unnatural — it’s like separating humans from their families forever, which would be heartbreaking. While he stays with us, his five sons are thriving freely in the wild ❣️.
It’s crucial that any animal able to return to the wild should do so, and those that cannot should receive the best possible care. But this shouldn’t justify zoos keeping animals in cages for profit.
