Citrus Heights Arts has announced dates for painting to begin on a new community mural along a sound wall on Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

Those who signed up to participate in the community mural will be invited to paint on Saturday Sept. 12 and Sunday Sept. 13, the nonprofit announced on social media. Over two dozen artists and community members have signed up and will paint in shifts.

FieldHaven Feline Center Executive Director Mackenna Gwaltney says progress is moving forward on the promised low-cost spay and neuter cat clinic in Citrus Heights after some delays involving permitting and a needed HVAC system replacement.

City staff are requesting approval from the City Council on Sept. 9 for a construction contract with American River Construction, Inc. for $457,000 for the 7555 Old Auburn Road Tenant Improvement Project.

A 9/11 memorial ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 will be held at Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus Heights on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.

The Citrus Heights City Council unanimously approved amendments related to the Gateway Activation Project, a planned trail and roadway improvement project connecting Citrus Heights to both local and neighboring jurisdiction trail networks.

The proposed safety improvements include adding three single-lane roundabouts at Old Auburn Road and Argo Drive, Old Auburn Road and Wachtel Way, and Old Auburn Road at Oakwood Hills Circle/Linda Creek Court.

The Battle of the Bands and BBQ was originally created as a fundraiser to assist veterans and has since grown into a local tradition. Proceeds benefit the “Vets Helping Vets” program, which has provided direct assistance to dozens of veterans over the years.
