This one sucks.

I saw New Found Glory more times than I can probably remember. Warped Tour. Honda Civic Tour. XFest. Club shows. All through those early 2000s Cleveland years.

And back then I was just getting started in radio at 92.3 Xtreme Radio. New Found Glory were one of our bands. They came through constantly. We interviewed them. We talked to them at shows. You’d see them roll through town over and over and it just felt like that whole scene was going to be there forever.

Then you get news like this.

Chad had been fighting cancer for years, and if you followed what he was going through, you knew it was serious. But he was still making records. Still fighting. He even got back onstage with New Found Glory this summer.

45 years old. F**k.

RIP Chad Gilbert.

When “Barely Breathing” came out, I was 15 or 16 and that fu***ng song was EVERYWHERE.

MTV. Radio. Every store. Every car. You could not escape it. I swear TFG I’d wake up with “I am barely breathing…” already stuck in my head.

It was a living nightmare.

But almost 30 years later? I still know it. I still hear it. And it instantly takes me back to being that kid in the mid-’90s wanting to rip my ears off because that song was such an earworm.

I guess the bastard won.

RIP Duncan Sheik. 56 is way too young.

A great band + a great venue + a good ticket price still doesn’t guarantee s**t.

Fans only have so much money, so many free nights, and apparently putting pants on is now part of the economic equation.

When multiple shows are fighting for the same crowd, somebody loses.

Want bands to keep coming to your city? Buy the damn ticket.

Agents, promoters and talent buyers look at ticket history when deciding where a tour goes next. If 500 people showed up last time, that market looks a hell of a lot better than the one where 50 did.

And waiting until three hours before doors doesn’t exactly help.

Your city has a concert report card. Fans help write it.
