California’s leafy greens farming never ceases to amaze us! 🥬 🌱 🥦 ✨

Last week, we worked with our client, the California LGMA, to share the story of all that’s being done to keep leafy greens safe with food safety advocates Dr. Darin Detwiler and Kathleen Gillin. Kathleen’s daughter, Riley, was sickened in the 2006 spinach outbreak that led to the creation of the LGMA. Today, Kathleen serves as the public member on the LGMA Board.

Together, we saw romaine harvest, sampled broccoli straight from the field, met with food safety personnel who ensure the safety of the water used in farming leafy greens, visited a compost operation, got an up-close view of spinach harvest, and toured a state-of-the-art cooling facility — all dedicated to producing safe leafy greens.💚

Farmers Communication Exchange is sad to share the news that one of our favorite humans in all of California agriculture has passed. We had the privilege of working with Jonathan W. Field over the years in his role as Executive Director of the Walnut Bargaining Association and as Compliance Officer for the California and Arizona Leafy Greens Marketing Agreements and the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board. Please take a moment to read the press release we issued in his honor to learn more about all Jon contributed to California agriculture. He really was one of the best! He will be missed.

🌱 Pesticide Policy Is Evolving—Don’t Miss CACASA’s Perspective

We’re looking forward to the upcoming panel, “A New Era for California Pesticide Regulation,” featuring Lindsey Carter, Executive Director of our client, the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association (CACASA), at the Agri-Pulse Communications, Inc. Food & Ag Issues Summit in Sacramento on Tuesday, June 10th.

As part of this important discussion, Lindsey will share the critical role California’s agricultural commissioners play in pesticide enforcement—ensuring the safe use of pesticides in a way that protects communities while maintaining a practical, functional system for growers and industry. Her insights will be key to understanding how regulation and on-the-ground implementation work together to support public health and agricultural sustainability.

California Cantaloupe Season is Here!🍈☀️😎

Our team was recently in the Imperial Valley capturing the farm-to-fork story of cantaloupes for the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board. We spent time with growers, packers, and shippers, including Five Crowns Marketing and Legend Produce, documenting the care and craft that goes into every melon.

These assets will support CCAB’s upcoming consumer brand refresh and be shared throughout the season on social media. Follow California Cantaloupes for a taste of what’s to come.

Support bees, Celebrate !🐝

This past year, U.S. commercial beekeepers lost over 60% of their hives—a staggering figure that puts our nation's food system at risk.

The solution? It’s not just backyard gardens. Commercially managed bees need access to large, chemical-free forage lands—the kind that keeps them healthy between pollination seasons.

📌 California beekeepers manage 600,000 colonies year-round. Without nutritious forage, they’re forced to rely on costly sugar supplements that leave bees vulnerable.

Here’s how you can help:
✅ Buy American-made honey.
✅ Have land? Offer it for bee forage.
✅ Share this message—commercial bees feed the country, and they need space to thrive.
✅ Follow California State Beekeepers Association to stay updated on how you can help.

Let’s advocate for policies that open public lands to pollinators—because bees don’t just pollinate crops; they grow our future. 🐝

Nothing makes us happier than sharing stories of farmers who work so hard to bring us safe, healthy food. And we're especially pleased when that story reaches millions of consumers – as did this segment featuring our client the California LGMA, which ran this past weekend on CBS Sunday Morning. 📺 ☀️ 🥬

We are so proud of Tim York and Jack Vessey, who did a fantastic job explaining why this food safety program is so important. And a big thank you to David Pogue and Wonbo Woo of CBS Sunday Morning for bringing this story to millions of people who love leafy greens! 🥗

It’s always a beautiful time of year along the Sacramento River Delta! 🌸 🍐

Last week, Farmers Communication Exchange had the pleasure of capturing stunning content in blossoming pear orchards. With videography by Kyle Mize 🎥 and photography by our Digital Media Director, Miranda Olagaray📷, we gathered visuals for the California Pears domestic retail program, coordinated by Carolyn Becker, and its international program, managed by Will Callis at Bryant Christie Inc.

Beyond showcasing the beauty of California pears, we also filmed for a video series for the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association(CACASA), highlighting the vital work they do to keep our communities safe. One of the upcoming videos will illustrate the regulations surrounding pesticide applications near school zones. With Kyle Mize’s drone, we captured an aerial perspective demonstrating the quarter-mile radius around schools where additional pesticide application rules apply.
