Let’s talk about how moms are superheroes. It’s day 3 of my new job after a year off, and my first day working a full shift in my department. And my day job is fine! It’s the adjustment of going back to working full time away from home and then coming home to do another full time job thats getting to me. I’m tired, y’all. And let’s talk about weaponized incompetence. My husband is my best friend. He’s a supportive partner, a loving father, and a hard worker. He stayed home with each of our kiddos for the first years of their lives so that I could build my career and support us. But apparently I’ve taken such good care of everyone and everything for so long he seems to have forgotten how to listen and how to solo parent 😫. He gets home with the kids at 4. I got home at 6:15 and found he hadn’t started the easy taco dinner I planned and shopped for and discussed with him. He hadn’t checked to see if little had started her homework (spoiler alert - she hadn’t). He hadn’t checked to see if our hot water needed turning on so i could get everyone bathed (we need a new tank, it’s finicky - and spoiler, it was off). No, he was laying in bed scrolling with a plan to do make your own pizzas instead. Which I had planned to do tomorrow, when I’ll be the first one home. And so instead of giving me the time to decompress he proceeded to attempt this fun pizza activity dinner. But the kids are used to me running this show, so somehow we ended up with flour everywhere that i needed to clean up, and me taking over the whole dinner. But let’s be clear, I’m not blaming him for this. Transitions are hard and we were able to have a (slightly heated) honest conversation about what I need from him in order to keep this a partnership. Because tonight? I was back to being a stay at home mom, except I was trying to do it after an already full day of getting the kids up and ready and dropped off to two different schools before making my own hour long round trip commute to complete an 8.5 hour work day in a brand new place with brand new responsibilities. I know it will get easier, but for now I’m going to wallow and sulk. Thanks for letting me vent. Let me know if you have any advice on making transitions easier, and getting your family to step up!
