SAC Caribbean American Association The Caribbean American community in Sacramento WILL be unified.

Today, we honor the incredible legacy of Mother Rose (George Rose Peete West), a remarkable woman who touched countless lives. As the mother of former Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and the driving force of the Underground Bookstore in Oak Park, CA, she was a tireless advocate for literacy and education. Her passion for empowering others through knowledge and her dedication to community upliftment will never be forgotten.

After a courageous battle with cancer, she has left us, but her impact continues to resonate. We celebrate her life, her contributions, and the indelible mark she made on the world.

CARIBBEAN MASSIVE! Get ready for a transformation like no other! Fridays mark the beginning of my journey from where I have to be to where I want to be. Jamaica may not be close enough to California, but I'm bringing the vibes to you with music from CAHM Musical Ambassador: NESBETH!

NESBETH named NCAHM MUSICAL AMBASSADOR

Jamaican International Recording Artiste, Nesbeth, Named Musical Ambassador for National Caribbean American Heritage Month (“NCAHM”) June 2024

Jamaican reggae sensation Nesbeth has been appointed as the Musical Ambassador for National Caribbean American Heritage Month, June 2024.

This prestigious appointment comes as a recognition of Nesbeth's remarkable contributions to reggae music, which serves as a cultural cornerstone for the Caribbean diaspora worldwide.

With his captivating lyrics, soulful melodies, and powerful performances, Nesbeth has not only made a significant impact on the music industry but has also shaped socio-political norms in his country, being named by Rolling Stones Magazine as one the 60 most influential artiste in the Jamaica’s since Independence, his song “My Dream” having a “bridging impact” on the political landscape.

Nesbeth is a symbol of Caribbean pride and resilience. His music embodies the indomitable spirit of the Caribbean people, celebrating its rich cultural heritage and advocating for social justice and unity.

National Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrates the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States. US HANDS OFF HAITI

Twenty years after the 2004 coup that overthrew the democratically elected administration of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and the Fanmi Lavalas Party, we commemorate the continued resistance of Haiti’s grassroots movement. As the crisis in Haiti continues to unfold, we urge you to join us to hear from leaders of Fanmi Lavalas, the people's party of Haiti. The program will be held both at Eastside Arts Alliance in Oakland and live-streamed on youtube. PLEASE SHARE

Haiti’s Lavalas governments made historic advances in health care, women’s rights, housing, economic justice, food sovereignty and education. The 2004 coup wiped out these gains, ushering in 20 years of foreign occupation, dictatorship and terror, and a wave of neoliberal economic policies that have created a disaster in Haiti. But the achievements of the Aristide administrations are etched deep in the soul of Haiti and remain a foundation for Haiti’s future.
