Born on this day in 1907, Frida Kahlo gave the world a visual language for pain, resilience, duality, and womanhood.

In The Two Fridas (1939), Kahlo paints herself twice. One heart exposed and one hand held, a portrait of inner conflict and self-love, of heritage and heartbreak.

Frida was never just one thing. She was many, unapologetically.

We celebrate her life, her art, and her enduring spirit.

Practicing self acceptance and accesing our true selves are key for our wellbeing. On this Yoga Day, we wish inner peace, authenticity, and flexibility and in a chaotic, dogmatic and performative world. ❤️ 🧘‍♀️

June 19, 1865.
The last enslaved Black Americans were finally told they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and culture.
But it’s also a reminder of everything that was stolen: lives, names, families, futures.

Slavery didn’t really end in 1865. Its legacy is still alive.
Black Americans are still paying the price for something they never caused.

One example?
📉 41% of Black business owners were denied a loan last year—compared to 18% of white business owners.
📈 And when they do get funding, they’re often charged 22% higher interest.

Money is power.
And one of the most powerful ways we can support Black communities is by helping build wealth and access.

Buy from them. Partner with them. Promote them. Not just today—but every day.

💌 I shared more in this week’s newsletter, including a list of companies suporting Black-owned brands, and some products I love. Head to matriark.com and share it with everyone you know.

Her grandmother’s pearl, balooons, and even her divorce documents... all get a new life in Suzanne Tick’s pieces. She finds calmness and stillness in weaving, a solitary and meditative practice. Her dad was a 3rd generation scrap metal recycler, and while her friends were at the mall, Suzanne was in the junkyard with her dad. It was back then that she realized she could transform things. She would immerse herslef in art classes, and fell in love with weaving when she went to college.

Suzanne Tick is our Guest Speaker at The Matriark Salon x Pop Up Season Salon Series on June 16th, and we can’t wait to chat with her. Subscribe at Matriark.com to receive an invitation!

International Women’s Day is in 2 days. And while I’m all for celebrating women, I need to clear the air first. So I wrote an Open Letter to All Good Men ✉️ (read the entire thing at Matriark.com).

“Picture this:

A man—let’s call him Mr. Man—builds a huge building, lives in it comfortably, and whether through negligence or intention, sets parts of it on fire. Women rush in with buckets, trying to put out the flames and making sure everyone inside survives. Meanwhile, other men and women steal their buckets, trip them, or criticize how they’re fighting the fire. But the women keep going.

Mr. Man ignores the fire because he lives in the safest rooms. And when women tell him what’s happening, he shrugs. Not my fault, he says.

So the women, exhausted, go to workshops to learn how to be firefighters. They teach each other how to build stronger, fireproof walls. They organize conferences to share firefighting techniques and commiserate about how tough it’s to live in a burning building. They ask some of the male residents to be allies. The allies nod, sympathize, and buy the women new buckets while avoiding Mr. Man and the fire altogether.

Then, some people start blaming the women for the stress they’re under. They tell them they should be grateful to have a building at all, despite the fires. Others move toward Mr. Man’s part of the building, hoping to find safety at his side, and start adding to the fire to keep everyone else from crowding their space. So much time passes that fighting the fire becomes just another part of daily life.

And Mr. Man? He goes on, untouched, oblivious, never facing the consequences of what he’s done.”

SOUNDS FAMILIAR? Head to Matriark.com to read the entire letter – this is an open post for all. Sending love,

Patricia

I’m so excited to announce the launch of The Matriark Salon 📣 A Space for Thought and Conversation with Special Guests

The Matriark Salon is a new in-person event series where we can gather with thought leaders for engaging, meaningful conversations.

I am partnering with Susan Sandler, founder of Pop Up Season (formerly PopUpSummer!), to host a special series in the Hamptons, starting this Spring. With a shared passion for fashion, retail, and the arts, Susan and I will co-host these beautifully curated gatherings, designed to foster connection, insight, and inspiration.

The Matriark and Pop Up Season communities will come together for these intimate salons, where ideas flow and relationships deepen. We can’t wait to share our programming with you soon!

We are hosting the salon in a private home, and seats will be very limited. The Matriark Newsletters paid subscribers will get priority and will receive invitations first, and once we have their confirmations, we will open the remaining seats to the general public. Make sure to subscribe to get the most of Matriark’s offerings at Matriark.com.

Follow us here and and subscribe to The Matriark Newsletter, and stay tuned for programming announcements! ❤️

I have money and how to manage “retirement” on my mind! But the financial silence—especially among women—is deafening. Many of us weren’t raised to talk about money, let alone manage it. Financial literacy wasn’t a given, and if you didn’t grow up with wealth—or access to those who understood it or talked about it—navigating savings, retirement, or investments is like speaking in a different language. And the truth is: the quieter we are, the more financially disempowered we become.

Our weekly newsletter is out. Give it read at Matriark.com, this one is free to all, and let’s have these important conversations. Our relationship with money and our financial stability is a huge part of our wellbeing and women should not be afraid to address it. Who should I interview in my new upcoming podcast about this subject? What do you want to know or learn or talk about when it comes to money? Xo,
Patricia
