The World Day for the Poor, established by Pope Francis in 2017, is celebrated annually to raise awareness and encourage action toward poverty and the needs of the poor:

In his first apostolic exhortation, "Dilexi Te" ("I Have Loved You"), Pope Leo XIV has taken up the call of Pope Francis for Christians to see in the poor the very face of Christ -- and to be a church that "walks poor with the poor."

"Life doesn't always follow the plans we make. And when things don't go as expected, gratitude can be much harder to find.

I never imagined becoming a bishop. When I received that call, it caught me by surprise. I had to let go of my own ideas about how I would live out my priestly ministry. I had to search for gratitude in the midst of that unexpected shift. And eventually, I found it. I discovered blessings I hadn't anticipated.

So, I ask you, what unexpected things are present in your life right now? Things you may not feel grateful for that might, in time, reveal themselves as true gifts? Reflect on unexpected places you might find gratitude today."

This is an excerpt from one of the Moments with Bishop Neary airing on K•yes this month about unexpected blessings.

You can catch Bishop Neary on K•yes Monday through Sunday, as he shares brief messages that relate Scripture to our everyday lives.

If you are unable to tune in, you can listen to this month's archived messages on our website: https://kyesradio.com/a-moment-with-bishop-neary/

Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.

"Brothers and sisters:
You are God's building.
According to the grace of God given to me,
like a wise master builder I laid a foundation,
and another is building upon it.
But each one must be careful how he builds upon it,
for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there,
namely, Jesus Christ.
Do you not know that you are the temple of God,
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
If anyone destroys God's temple,
God will destroy that person;
for the temple of God, which you are, is holy."
- 1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17

How do you live out your vocation?

Every calling matters in God’s plan.

Wherever the Holy Spirit leads you, your vocation is a gift to the Church and the world! 🤎

During this Vocation Awareness Week, we wanted to provide some scriptural encouragement, no matter which vocational stage you find yourself:

🤎 Priesthood 🤎
“Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’” - John 21:17
God’s call to priesthood is a call to serve, feed His sheep, lead with compassion, and bring Christ’s presence to His people.

🤎 Marriage 🤎
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her.” - Ephesians 5:25
Marriage mirrors Christ’s sacrificial love, a daily yes to serve one another with joy and grace. God calls two hearts to become one, a reflection of His faithful love for the Church.

🤎 Religious Life 🤎
“I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” - Philippians 3:8
The call to religious life is a call to joyful surrender, a life wholly given to Christ and His Church. Religious life is rooted in deep love and devotion, choosing Christ above all else.

🤎 Single Life (Dedicated Lay Life / Mission Work) 🤎
“An unmarried person is concerned about the Lord’s affairs — how they can please the Lord.” - 1 Corinthians 7:32–34
The single vocation is one of freedom and devotion, serving Christ through mission, prayer, and community. Whether through service, ministry, or daily witness, the single vocation reflects a heart fully available to God.

🤎 For Those Still Discerning 🤎
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’” - Isaiah 6:8
Discerning your vocation takes prayer, patience, and trust, but God will always lead you where you’ll bear the most fruit.
