Greetings.

July 22 marks the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, a day to honor one of the most faithful disciples of Jesus.

Though often misunderstood, Mary Magdalene holds a special place in the Church. She was the first to witness the Resurrection, becoming the apostle to the apostles.

Her story reminds us that God's mercy is greater than our past. Scripture shows her transformation from brokenness to devotion, proving that the love of Christ heals, redeems, and calls us to mission.

Pope Francis elevated her feast day to the same level as the Apostles, affirming her role in proclaiming the Good News.

As we celebrate, let us reflect on our own call to discipleship. Like Mary Magdalene, we are invited to encounter Jesus, to follow Him, and to proclaim His love to the world.

Take time today to read John 20:11-18, meditating on her witness and asking for her intercession. May we, like her, rise in faith and courage to share the joy of Christ with all.

Join me in honoring St. Mary Magdalene, embracing her example of transformation and faith.

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve,
was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord."
But Thomas said to them,
"Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands
and put my finger into the nailmarks
and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Now a week later his disciples were again inside
and Thomas was with them.
Jesus came, although the doors were locked,
and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands,
and bring your hand and put it into my side,
and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me?
Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

Here is Bishop Neary's reflection about ordinations:

Greetings.

You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek, says Psalm 110.

June is traditionally the month of ordinations in our diocese. One of the great honors a bishop has is ordaining men to the sacrament of holy orders.

This year, I was overjoyed to ordain two men to the priesthood and six men as deacons. It is incredible to witness the overwhelming joy I see in these faithful men, as they accepted fully the call and these important roles in the Church. May we offer our deep congratulations to these courageous men.

As these men enter into their ministries, we also recognize all those who have new assignments. May we pray and support all those who will be transitioning into new areas of service.

We also recognize that summer is a season of relaxation and refreshment. Even though our calendars fill up quickly with many events, let us pause and take time to rejuvenate our souls. Not only to break from our labors but take the time to recharge our spiritual batteries as well.

Lastly, we have many women and men that serve our diocese so faithfully. I am grateful every day for their sacrificial service to me, to the diocese, and to the parishes and schools in which they serve.
