Coach Amin Ali is a housing expert, youth coach, and dedicated community organizer, now running for Stearns County Commissioner, District 4. In the 2025 primary election, he earned the top spot as the first-place candidate, a clear reflection of the community’s trust in his leadership and vision for the county.

A proud St. Cloud resident for over a decade, Amin has spent years serving families and youth across Central Minnesota. With extensive experience in the housing field, he has helped countless families secure safe, affordable homes while building partnerships that make long-term housing solutions possible.

As a youth soccer coach and founder of a free soccer academy, Amin has provided mentorship and athletic training to more than 250 children, especially from low-income families. By working closely with parents and local school districts, he has given young people opportunities to grow in confidence, health, and character.

Beyond housing and youth development, Amin serves as a board member on several organizations in Central Minnesota, contributing to initiatives in education, equity, and community development.

Attorney Statement Regarding the ICE Detention of Omar Abdi Jamal

Minneapolis, MN – I represent Mr. Omar Jamal, a respected Somali-American civic leader, who was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this afternoon and is currently being held at Freeborn Adult Detention Center in Minnesota.

Mr. Jamal has spent decades advocating for public safety, interfaith cooperation, and stronger relationships between law enforcement and immigrant communities. He has worked closely with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and is widely recognized for his leadership and community engagement.

Years ago, a U.S. immigration judge found that Mr. Jamal would face persecution if returned to Somalia and granted him protection from removal under U.S. law. We are aware that ICE may now be exploring alternate removal options. However, Mr. Jamal is not a citizen of any other country, including Canada.

Our office is actively reviewing the basis for his detention and will pursue all appropriate legal avenues to protect his rights and ensure he is treated in accordance with the law.

We urge ICE to act with transparency and fairness, and we ask the community to remain engaged and supportive during this time.
