Bunker Hill Loop

The Bunker Hill Loop is a scenic and historical trail located within Enterprise South Nature Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It features remnants of the Volunteer Army Am******on Plant (VAAP), a World War II-era facility established in the early 1940s to manufacture and store millions of pounds of TNT.

The loop is famous for its domed, "beehive"-style concrete bunkers (technically called Corbetta magazines).One hundred of these heavy concrete bunkers were spaced precisely apart and originally covered with soil and vegetation so enemy aircraft could not easily spot them from the sky, preventing a domino-effect explosion if hit.
The am******on plant was permanently laid away in 1977. Environmental cleanup and site remediation began in the late 1990s.

The 2,800-acre Enterprise South Nature Park officially opened to the public in December 2010, converting military infrastructure into preserved green space, walking trails, and biking paths where trees and wildlife have grown over the historic concrete domes.
