Carp river bridge 3445-0.1

This bridge a 90 feet long five span timber bridge. It crosses the carp river and can be walked across. This is a bridge that is on Forest Service Road 3445. It is not able to support vehicle traffic any longer so it is only open to hiking.

Semipalmated Sandpiper

Conservation status: Near threatened (population decreasing)

These birds usually measure from 5-7 inches long with a wingspan of 14-15 inches. Females are a bit larger than males.

The name semipalmated means that their feet are half webbed and it can only be seen up close.

The geese were talking to one another.

As two Canadian geese flew by another sitting in a pond honking at one another seemed like the appropriate thing to do. I love the first shot being able to see the gooses tongue.

Black and White Graveyard

A carousel of black and white photos in and around a cemetery. From the fence line that surrounds it to the headstones that mark the sites of loved ones. Then bench where those that come to visit can sit and rest for a while under the shade of a tree.

The American Toad

Classification: Least Concern

This is primarily a land animal that returns to shallow waters for breeding purposes. That start out as a tadpole and then grow to a full size from about 2-3.5 inches. They have parotoid glands that ooze a mild toxin that is utilized to deter predators.

While the common misconception is that toads cause warts. They actually do not. Warts are caused by human transmission through HPV.
