Park director gives update on Tiger Shark Water Park

Parks Director Kristy Rich on June 8 shared an update with the St. James City Council regarding repairs for Tiger Shark Water Park.

The pool was struck by lightning on May 19 and three water pumps were damaged. There was a fan on one of the pumps that melted during the lightning strike. There also issues in the electric panels from the strike.

More reloading for Lady Tigers this summer

The St. James Lady Tiger girls’ basketball squad has no intention of rebuilding this summer.

They are simply reloading.

So, what else is new?

As usual, the Lady Tigers do not have a large team in either size or numbers during the current summer off-season program.

Harlan ends tenure at St. James, retires as high school principal

Dr. Greg Harlan may not have walked the halls of St. James R-1 High School more years than anyone else.

But you could probably count fingers on one hand as to how many people who rank ahead of him.

Harlan, a 1989 STJ graduate, officially completed his impressive run of student-athlete, teacher, coach and administrator at the school last month when he retired as St. James High Principal.

Squirrels chew, destroy waste bins throughout city

Public Works Director Lyle Thomas addressed the Saint James Municipal Utility Board on June 2 about squirrels gnawing on waste collection containers throughout the city.

“We’ve got a couple of them off of Terry Lane, about one or two squirrels (that) are terrorizing the neighbors,” said Thomas.
