Missouri Agribusiness Academy Applications Open

The Missouri Department of Agriculture is offering 30 high school students representing 4-H clubs, FFA chapters and farm families throughout Missouri the opportunity to explore careers in agriculture through the 2026 Missouri Agribusiness Academy (MAbA). MAbA is a competitive program for sophomores interested in pursuing agriculture-related degrees and careers.

Meramec Regional Community Foundation’s 2026 grant round accepting applications until Feb. 2

ST. JAMES—Meramec Regional Community Foundation (MRCF) will be awarding two community grants of up to $1,000 each. Preference will be given to projects that focuses on community or economic development and projects that will assist at-risk children and/or low-income families.

Tigers split FRC games; Gruver reaches 1,000 points

The St. James High boys’ basketball team opened its Four Rivers Conference schedule by splitting a pair of games last week.
The Tigers opened league play by crushing New Haven 67-22 at home Tuesday, Dec. 16. And they were beaten at Union 58-52 Friday, Dec. 19.

City of St. James, chamber partner for fall festival

St. James Chamber of Commerce, city of St. James, and St. James Parks & Recreation Department have partnered to host the 2026 Grape & Fall Festival.
“We kind of redefined what the Grape & Fall Festival should be,” said Chamber of Commerce Director Kelly Money.
Under the new structure, the chamber will continue with fundraising and will oversee the Downtown Vendor Fair.

Tigers go 1-6 at Sam Richardson Duals

The St. James High boy's wrestling team finished 1-6 in dual meets at the Sam Richardson Duals, held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19-20 in Moberly.
The Tigers clipped Westminster Christian Academy 36-35 and lost to Chillicothe 42-34, to Reeds Spring 48-30, to Cameron 77-6, to Kirksville 53-24, to Mid-Buchanan 53-24 and to Moberly 59-18.

St. James City Council approves ordinance, resolution, incentives for employees

St. James City Council voted 7-0 on Dec. 8 to pass Ordinance No. 25-1311 related to a $5,000 purchase for a .19 acre fraction of land owned by J&L Properties.
City Administrator Leeann DeMouche wrote background information on the ordinance.

Public works repairs water main breaks, reports maintenance to St. James City Council

Public Works Director Lyle Thomas reported to the St. James City Council on Dec. 8 that there were two water main breaks found on Dec. 6 at N. Louise Avenue and Walters Avenue.

Public employees were able to finish repairs for the leak located at N Louise Avenue around 3 a.m. on Dec. 9 and finished repairing the other leak at Walters Ave at 2 p.m. the same day.

TRIO Grant to Strengthen Support for First-Generation and Underserved ECC Students

East Central College has been awarded a federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant to strengthen academic and personal support for students who face barriers to completing college.

The program will serve first-generation students, those from low-income households, and students with disabilities. The grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

Volunteers weather cooler temperatures to honor veterans on Wreaths Across America Day

Despite the frosty temperatures, on Dec. 13 several volunteers went to the Saint James Missouri Veterans Cemetery to place wreaths on each headstone in honor of Wreaths Across America Day.

St. James, Missouri Veterans Home Assistance League President Keith Livingstone said this was the most volunteers he’d seen ever come.
