03 December 1965: The Beatles released a turning point album, "Rubber Soul." Widely hailed as a new era in The Beatles’ style, Rubber Soul placed a greater emphasis on the group as a whole instead of focusing on the individual artists. Many of the songs from the album were inspired by encounters with Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley during The Beatles’ August 1965 North American tour.

25 November 1984: The final day of recording took place for “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid. The group, which was organized to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia, included some of the most influential names in music, such as George Michael, Phil Collins, and members of Duran Duran. The song would be released a week later, becoming a No. 1 hit in 14 countries and amassing over $9 million for their cause.

19 November 1964: For the first time in history, an all-girl group reached No. 1 in the UK as “Baby Love” by The Supremes skyrocketed to the top of the charts. With writing and production by the Holland-Dozier-Holland team at Motown, this hit single also went No. 1 in the US.

11 November 1978: The Cars made history with “My Best Friend’s Girl,” which became the first commercially released picture disc single. The song was also featured on the group’s self-titled debut album and reached Top 40 in the US and the No. 3 spot in the UK.

28 October 1989: Janet Jackson cruised through a four-week run atop the US album chart with "Rhythm Nation 1814." A certified 6x Platinum LP, it featured hits including “Escapade,” “Miss You Much,” and, of course, “Rhythm Nation.” This was Jackson’s second consecutive album to reach the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

21 October 1958: Buddy Holly had his last recording session at Pythian Temple Studios in New York. Some of the songs he recorded were “Raining in My Heart” and “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore.” They were later known as “The String Sessions” because they marked the first and only time Holly used a string arrangement in conjunction with his vocals.

15 October 1956: Little Richard recorded “Good Golly, Miss Molly” at the J&M Studio in New Orleans. The song was part of Richard’s sophomore album, "Here’s Little Richard," and grew popular with his captivating persona. Jerry Lee Lewis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and other famous acts would later perform covers of the hit.
