It’s been a whole year since we last did my clients hair!

We are transitioning from a faded red to now a beige blonde dimensional highlight, with a tint of ash.

The ends were a bit too weak from previous sessions, and the reds were so stubborn. Therefore, you will see that the ends are a bit copper. However, a situation like this calls for a second session after my client goes home and uses an after care treatment. Once her hair is strong enough again, a second session will lift the ends making it blonder.

Keep in mind that all color corrections take time! Not all hairstylists are willing to stand for 12 hours to give you the hair you want, so understand that any color correction you do will take 1-3 sessions depending on the integrity of the hair.

Many times during a color correction we get a lot of clients shedding tears because they don’t reach their hair color goals.

However, box colored hair is such a controversial topic to bring up, especially if you as the client do not understand the process of a color corrections. But note that if your stylist is not educating you on it prior to your color correction, they may not be doing their job. Therefore you have to ask all the necessary questions.

Here are a few questions to ask prior and after your appointment:

- What are the steps to correcting box colored hair?
- What can I expect to happen to my hair during the process?
- Is my hair strong enough to go through another chemical treatment to reach my hair goals?
- If I can’t get my hair color I desired, what’s the closest color we can achieve to help me reach it?
- How many sessions are expected for me to get to my hair color goal?
- If I can’t reach my hair color today, may I opt out for another option? (Most times if you did a deposit, you will not get that deposit back. So make sure to seek other options so you are not losing out on your deposit)

- What are the necessary aftercare I need to follow to upkeep my color and hair health?
- Which treatments and home remedies should I follow after getting my hair color corrected?
- How often should I come back for my color correction to reach my desired results?

Asking necessary questions can help with miscommunication, misunderstanding, and can give you a clearer picture of what to expect with your hair color goals.

Here is one that I recently did! My client had box dyed her hair 1 year ago. The remaining box color is still on her ends. My client still wants to keep her hair long, so all I did was do a perimeter cut adding textures and layers, which this helps to get rid of as many of the remaining colors as possible. Our goals is to reach a level 9 blonde. However, the integrity of her hair did not help us reach that level. Therefore, she would need to come back one more time after taking the necessary steps of her aftercare routine to make prep her hair for the next session.
