2025 CHISAGO LAKES OLYMPIC - On paper, JOHN BODEAU appeared to be the man to beat in this year's men's race, with SEAN PICKLE being the guy who had the best chance to spoil that. As expected, John and Sean finished 1-2, well ahead of the rest of the men's field.

The women's competition unfolded differently. Pre-race favorite SHANNON FLOREA, an elite master from Lexington, Kentucky, and late registrant VANESSA NAGEL appeared to be the ones who would battle for the top two podium steps. When all was said an done, however, they settled for the 2nd and 3rd spots behind JESSICA TAYLOR, who we are anxious to learn more about. Unable to uncover past triathlon results, it appears that Jessica was making her multisport debut. Beating the likes of Florea and Nagel and other credentialed tri vets, and doing so on your first effort, is exciting stuff. Did you know that the HOOT LAKE TRIATHLON has a cool mascot? Otto the Otter. He gives most of the HLT participants a high five as they approach the finish line. For the second year in a row, elite triathlete COREY NYGAARD was the first to have his hand slapped by an otter paw. The first woman to receive a high five was JENNIFER FOSTER, a Mill Valley, California resident with Minnesota roots. Finishing 3rd in 2024, Jennifer knocked a minute off both her swim and bike splits from a year ago.
The event drew 135 participants, thirty more than in '24. RESULTS - https://www.mtecresults.com/race/leaderboard/19193/2025_Hoot_Lake_Triathlon-Complete_Text_Results

Michael Clark sent us this Timberman Sprint race review.

I did my first triathlon in 2012 at the Blaine Triathlon and fell in love with the sport. I had a short gap in races due to a heavy work for 5 years, but this year will be my 4th year of being back into racing. I do about 10 races every year and would love to provide whatever support I can for the sport and community. I'll be sure to send you more race reviews if you'd like.

This is my fourth year in a row doing the Timberman Sprint distance and despite the choppy water and overcast skies it was another great race. Timberman is a very well-organized race with lots of great volunteers that provide fantastic support throughout the entire race. The course is well marked and I highly recommend it for any first-time triathletes.

The 0.25 mile swim is fairly shallow for a good portion of the distance which is great for anyone who is nervous about the swim. The 11 mile is fairly flat with rolling hills and no extreme climbs. The 3.1 mile run course has a short step hill as you leave transition, but provides a nice speed boost when you come back in for the finish. The rest of the run is mostly flat with a couple of mild hills and is well shaded making it a “cooler” run during the normally hot days of July
