In Loving Memory of Vanity
Vanity — born January 4, 1959 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada — was the Canadian singer, model, and actress born Denise Katrina Matthews, whose daring presence as lead singer of Vanity 6 and hits like “Nasty Girl” defined 1980s pop and funk. May her soul rests in peace.
Here’s a lesser-known fact many might not know: after years in the spotlight and battling addiction, she walked away from fame in the 1990s, renounced her Vanity persona, became a born-again Christian, destroyed most of her old recordings and devoted her life to evangelism, sharing her redemption story with audiences far beyond the stage.
Vanity passed away February 15, 2016 from kidney failure at age 57, but her journey — from pop icon to spiritual messenger — remains a story of transformation worth remembering.
