As National Hire a Veteran Day, it seems only fitting that business representative Michael Monterosa from Carpenters Union Local 948 was at Western Iowa Tech's career fair that focused on helping veterans get back to work!

Our veteran members bring valuable skills, unwavering dedication, and a strong work ethic to the construction industry. We are honored to stand and work alongside those who have served our country.

Last week in Rochester, MN, we proudly celebrated seven eager and enthusiastic graduates of the Labor Education Advancement Program (LEAP). LEAP opens doors to the construction industry for individuals who may not have had the opportunity otherwise, creating a pathway to begin a career as a union apprentice.

Congratulations to all the graduates for their hard work, commitment, and determination in completing the program. Graduates included: Lina Bashier, Jared Kalis, Andy Mehlhop, Jose Ramirez, Wade Smith, Urian Thay, and Daniel Wagner.

July's Toolbox Talk focuses on the impact of alcohol and substance use on both safety and mental health in the construction industry. We highlight why construction workers face a higher risk for substance use, how it affects jobsite safety, and what it means for overall well-being. Some key points include recognizing signs, simple ways to check in, and how to support others.
