If you love chanterelles as much as I do, you can get your fix at right now! Chef Kevin did an awesome job with a vegetarian wild rice chanterelle burger, a chanterelle flatbread with a delicious leek sauce, and....as a favor he made us some chanterelles done tempura style that was spectacular!

Do our forays look like this? Well, not really, but it's fun to imagine! Walk the woods, learn your mushrooms… and stick around for pizza. 🍄🍕
By mid-summer, a whole cast of wild mushrooms starts to show up — chanterelles, hedgehogs, Russulas, oysters, chicken of the woods… even black trumpets if we’re lucky.

This Saturday, I’ll take you out into the forest to explore where they grow, how to find them, and what sets them apart from their less-edible cousins. You’ll leave with a better eye for what’s out there — and a clearer idea of what’s worth picking.

I'm up in this really remote area, nor roads, beyond grown over logging trails, and I come across this. What really got me obsessing is wo during why (and frankly how) someone put a boulder that must weigh several tons on some base rocks here....thoughts?

A few years back, I took a trip up past Flin Flon — a small mining town on the Manitoba–Saskatchewan border — to hunt burn morels.

The mushrooms were incredible, but what stuck with me was a man I met deep in the woods. He lived alone in a one-room cabin, completely off-grid — no power, no plumbing, no complaints.

We shared a fire, a meal, and much conversation. He didn’t offer answers, just a kind of vibe that spoke louder than words. That night, the sun hung in the sky long after it should’ve been gone, and I haven’t forgotten it since.

That’s where Land of the Lemon Sun comes from.
