The Ramsey County Board lowered its planned levy hike for 2026 from a proposed 9.75% increase compared to the 2025 levy to a 8.25% increase year-over-year in the final levy for '26. As a result, county taxes will be slightly lower than projected in truth-in-taxation notices mailed to property owners this fall.
The county's property taxes will be about $6 million lower than they would have been under the preliminary levy, but the final levy will still bring in $428.6 million for the county's coffers.

Guest columnist Curtis West takes issue with the way Saint Paul issues permits and determines construction schedules. He writes, "I welcome the incoming administration of Mayor-elect Kaohly Her and urge her and the City Council to streamline these processes so that qualified businesses can obtain, in a timely and efficient manner, the permits and licenses necessary to grow successful businesses in Saint Paul. Doing so will help create jobs and strengthen the city’s tax base."
