I was harnessed 30’ up an avocado tree sifting through thousands of honeybees. I had one job and that was to find the queen! I thought she landed on my hat, but then noticed thousands of bees gathering underneath a trailer below me.

The math wasn’t mathin’ when the homeowner told me the bees had only been there a couple of weeks. The colony was massive and unfortunately the honeybees weren’t excited to see me. I ended up suiting up in full gear just to make it out in one piece.

Our 2025 Florida Orange Blossom Honey is here and it’s sunshine in a jar🍊☀️
The bloom came and went fast this year. Just two short weeks before the petals dropped early, but our bees made the most of it. This honey is light, floral, and sweet with delicate citrus notes. It tastes like spring in Florida.

Did you know that honeybees (Apis mellifera) are responsible for pollinating nearly 80% of all flowering crops, including almonds, apples, blueberries, and pumpkins? Their pollination services contribute over $20 billion annually to U.S. agriculture.

But here’s something surprising, honeybees aren’t native to North America. They were introduced by European settlers in the 1600s, yet they have become a keystone species in modern agriculture. Unlike native pollinators, managed honeybee colonies can be transported across the country, ensuring large-scale pollination for crops that rely on them.

Without honeybees, entire food chains would be disrupted. Many plants would struggle to reproduce, reducing the availability of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Even livestock feed, like alfalfa and clover, depends on pollination, making honeybees crucial to meat and dairy production as well.

To protect honeybee populations:
✅ Support local beekeepers who practice sustainable beekeeping
✅ Plant pollinator-friendly flowers in your yard
✅ Avoid neonicotinoid pesticides, which impair bee navigation and reproduction

After Hurricane Helene devastated St. Petersburg, Florida, flooding homes and destroying honeybee colonies, I received a call from Leasa. Her home had been hit hard, but amidst the destruction, she was determined to save the bees that had taken refuge there.In this video, I work to rescue a submerged hive, search for the queen, and give this colony a second chance. Along the way, I witness the heartbreaking aftermath of the storm—but also the resilience of both nature and the people rebuilding in its wake

This incredible open-air hive was so dangerous that three beekeepers turned it down—but I couldn’t let that stop me. Perched 30 feet up on an office building, this massive colony had been there for years, even surviving a maintenance man’s attempt to blast them away with a pressure washer!When I arrived, I quickly realized why this hive was considered “impossible.” Despite the challenges—tight spaces, a lift that couldn’t quite reach, and combs dropping 30 feet—I was determined to save as many bees as possible. Using an extension scraper and a vacuum, we removed two full buckets of bees and a deep box of brood.But did we get the queen? Watch to find out how this daring rescue ends!
