SGHS Hosts Inaugural French Honor Society Induction Ceremony
-by Bailey Otto

Oct. 6, 2025 – Ste. Genevieve High School held its first-ever induction ceremony for the Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society) this fall, led by French teacher Mme. Bre Uzzell.

The French Honor Society recognizes high-achieving students who have demonstrated excellence in French studies and a commitment to understanding Francophone cultures. During the ceremony, Mme. Uzzell introduced the goals of the organization and highlighted its national parent organization, the American Association of Teachers of French.

The evening included a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony, with each candle representing a core value—humanity, wisdom, optimism, service, passion, and unity. These values mirror the organization’s mission to promote scholarship, character, and cultural appreciation.

Inductees received certificates and pins to mark their membership, while seniors who meet continued requirements will be eligible to wear honor cords at graduation in May.

New members of the Société Honoraire de Français include: Jacey Bauman, Clementine Birkenstock, Emmerson Browne, Maria McGuire, Eleanor McKlin, Camille Melahn, Jersey Quinn, Hailey Wells, and Ava Zerwig.

In closing, Mme. Uzzell encouraged students to continue using and strengthening their French skills, make connections through language, and live with the joie de vivre that defines Francophone culture.

SGMS NJHS Students Volunteer at Memorial Cemetery
-by Bailey Otto

Oct. 6, 2025 – The Ste. Genevieve Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), sponsored by Mrs. Bre Uzzell, has partnered with the Foundation for the Restoration of Ste. Genevieve to assist with clean-up efforts at the Memorial Cemetery this fall.

The first volunteer day took place on Sept. 20, when students gathered to rake leaves, remove debris, and learn how to properly clean historic grave markers. Mr. Bill Hart helped organize the activities and guided students through the preservation process.

This partnership provides students with a meaningful way to give back to the community while learning about local history and the importance of caring for historic sites.
