If you wonder why I’m closed on Mondays it’s because it’s the one day I have to do inventory, bring in boat loads of blanks, take private meetings, pay bills, re-order super expensive DTG Inc. and pretreat, sweep and vacuum the shop, and make lunch for my kiddo. The Cost of Doing Business… as a Small Business

If you’ve never dealt with tariffs, let me explain how they affect my world. Below is just one example from a supplier. These added costs—tariffs, freight, and more—are making it harder and harder to keep up. Especially when you’re competing with big box stores… and even harder when people you love drive to another town to shop, instead of supporting the dream you’ve poured your heart into.

Stores like Target, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, and Amazon will be just fine without your order. But can the same be said for your local small businesses?

Here’s the truth: the same product I carry may cost me four times more than it does for a major retailer. Why? Because they buy in massive volume and get deep discounts, lower tariffs, and free freight. We don’t. While they mark things up 5–20x, we usually double—maybe—just enough to keep the lights on.

So yes, sometimes our prices are higher. But with that comes a level of service you won’t find in the aisles of a big box store:
• A personal shopper
• A familiar face
• Someone who remembers your name and asks about your family

And to be clear—our items aren’t just made in China. Many come from around the world including right here in the U.S., and we ship from U.S. warehouses. Still, those tariffs add 21–27% to what we already pay.

To my friends and family—I love you always. But if you’ve ever wondered why shopping small matters, I hope this gives you a little insight.
