Cave City Cavemen’s Varsity Coach Tommy Cody made a bold decision just a couple of weeks before the start of the 2025 football season, to move from an 11-man to an 8-Man line-up, a new division, different opponents and a complete re-do of their fall schedule.

When asked what was behind his decision, Cody answered, “It was a numbers thing. Over the summer, we would have between 12 to 16 kids at practice…. We were looking at probably 18 kids on the roster.”

Cody said he’d never been to an 8-Man football game, though he’d watched some state championship games on television. He described it as football minus a couple of linemen and a running back or receiver; his strategy won’t have to change that much. “We will have to adapt, but we won’t have to go in and reinvent the wheel,” the coach added.
