This video is powerful in its relaxed, straightforward dialogue on topics which people fear to say out loud, much less out loud half way through a presidential term. But.
As someone who has and continues to deconstruct their relationship with the Dems, who sees little difference between the Reps vs Dems, who predicted & now watch as the MA white moderates co opt and manipulate (yet another) Progressive movement … this video is validating.

Ahhh .

Not sure I have the words to adequately describe the power of Nicole and the NSJ - to speak directly to a predominantly white audience while in a …
98% intentionally white town who until recently used racist named for public spaces and ignores Youth at Risk Survey data which document our students are harassed and endure violence due to their race
99% white male police force
99% white leadership
99% white speakers
100% white historical record keepers
100% white media …

And Nicole rolls on up to address racism anyway. She speaks directly to all those who represent exclusion and power. To oppressors, past and present.

And she says: “Freedom for Black Americans has always been incomplete”.

She then publicly acknowledges the persistence of anti-Blackness in narratives, priorities and in systems.

Affirms “Equity, is not a competition; justice is not a limited resource”

Nicole is pure unapologetic power

Did you read the piece? We are fortunate to have Will and his media coverage. However, since we are sharing on our page we will note that we should be cognizant of how we quietly and unconsciously diminish Black voices…

No shade to the work done by ww highlighted - but is the event for white folks to celebrate other white folks…?

Should there be so many white folks speaking as authorities on Black History?

With no diverse representation in local media, we need to review positioning/placement in a piece - as it reflects the importance of the subject. How many paragraphs before Nicole/NSJ is noted? How did other media outlets coverage compare and contrast?

Outside Abbot Hall, Marblehead’s Juneteenth program brought together music, local history, poetry, a flag raising and calls for the town to remember honestly — and follow through. Read more by clicking on link in first comment.

How about good news in the fight for dignity equity and humanity? This is definitely something Massachusetts should be celebrating. HOWEVER (if you’ve followed us for a while, you knew there’d be one!!)

Always struggle with offering accolades for elected officials to acknowledge our basic human dignity/rights… which weren’t considered or thought of by said elected body for whom we are shouting gratitude.

Am I cranky? Possibly.

I’d like to add language to express immense gratitude and appreciation for ALL THE LOVE AND LABOR which spurred elected officials to… do their job 😉 There. That’s better 🩷

Wish them the best! Love this concept - in fact I have been advocating/writing/posting about community garden plans for 1.5years. Dean Cuzner (Cuzner Landscaping) and I have repeatedly been sent down the rabbit hole of endless approvals to plant a garden (in public space, for all to enjoy) since … February 2025. All material labor design plumbing irrigation maintenance would have been free thanks to donations from local businesses, community members and fishermen 💕 Unfortunately, every pitch for approval the goal posts would be moved and yet another elusive approval would be required. All to say: we need to support any and all efforts to beautify 🌻🐝🦋

Yes it is. Several times over the years I’ve not realized I needed a break - until the end of a busy public-facing day ends with the realization that my clothing (shirt, pants, dress) has been inside- out or backwards 🤭 Yup. Happened again as result of the recent State House Shenanigans to ignore 72% of the voters demanding an of the Legislature (with the predictable defense of “we are simply following the constitution…”). Need to reset 💕

Hey , how about instead of oppressing 72% of your voters and prosecuting our Auditor for doing her job, whining about the failure of 3A MBTA Zoning, or [fill In blank]… you concern yourselves with addressing - with more than photo ops and posts?

The National Coalition for the Homeless offers the following for Potential Advocacy:

The highest legislative priority should be to reauthorize the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act and include LGBTQ specific provisions.

❤️Since the main cause of LGBTQ youth homelessness is family rejection, efforts and campaigns can be undertaken to either prevent youth from being thrown out of the home if they are at risk of homelessness, or to reunify families and open the minds of parents whose children are already homeless.
🧡We should encourage federal, state, and local agencies to ensure that LGBTQ youth are placed in supportive foster homes.
💛At homeless shelters, we can place transgender youth and adults in safe and appropriate shelter and housing programs based upon both their gender identity and an individualized assessment.
💚Schools should be a safe haven for all youth, including LGBTQ youth. We need to address the role unsafe schools have in promoting youth homelessness, and aggressively address school bullying. We also should better ensure that homeless youth are able to continue their education.
🩵Shelter staff need to be trained on how to be an ally to LGBT individuals and written policies must be put in place to keep discrimination from occurring.
💜Dedicated shelters for LGBTQ people and youth provide an opportunity for a safe space to provide dedicated services for those who need it most. It is also beneficial for LGBTQ individuals who are experiencing homelessness to see LGBTQ staff working at shelters, since they can provide unique understanding and inspiration.

Our view:
No excuse for not closing loophole on child s*x abuse
Jun 1, 2026

Senator Joan B. Lovely is not giving up.

The Salem Democrat in recent weeks attached an amendment to the Senate version of next year’s budget that would close a gaping loophole in state law and better protect teens and children from predatory adults.

The measure, which met with approval from her colleagues, stipulates that people under the age of 18 would be unable to legally consent to s*x with an adult “who holds, or has held, supervisory or custodial authority over them” in a school setting or other context.

The aim of the proposed law is to prevent teachers and other authority figures from claiming consent after they groomed students while they were underage.

“Once a young person turns 16, they are presumed legally capable of consenting to s*xual activity, even with an adult in a position of supervisory or custodial authority, who may have groomed or manipulated them over months or years,’ Lovely said. “This is the loophole. A 16- or 17-year-old student cannot consent to having s*x with their teacher. A teenage athlete cannot consent to having s*x with their coach.”

She emphasized, “Power and trust make true consent impossible.”

Because of the loophole, it has been difficult for district attorneys to press charges because state law doesn’t recognize “the inherent power imbalance,” she said.

The issue has been in the public consciousness of late due to the publicity surrounding alleged instances of s*xual abuse at Miss Hall’s School for Girls in Pittsfield. Two women have come forward in recent years to say a teacher there groomed them for s*x while they were young students.

That is, however, far from the only case.

“The headlines have not stopped,” Lovely said during the Senate debate. “Across all of Massachusetts, we are seeing horrific stories of s*xual abuse in schools.”

Lovely said 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 16 boys under 18 are s*xually abused or assaulted. The numbers jump to 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 9 boys when online experiences are included, she said.

Under Lovely’s proposal, the abuse would be a crime even if the adult is no longer in a supervisory role at the time of the offense. It also calls for a 20-year sentence for r**e and as many as 10 years for abuse.

Additionally the proposal adds “these new offenses to the definitions underlying the s*x offender registry, ensuring these crimes are captured and tracked.”

If this all sounds familiar, it is because Lovely has been working for more than a decade to close the loophole surrounding predatory teachers and other authority figures. None of the bills she or others have filed have made it to a final vote.

That’s a shameful legacy for the Legislature – one it can put in the past if the House accepts Lovely’s amendment and sends it on to Gov. Maura Healey for her signature.

There’s no reason that shouldn’t happen. And if the House negotiators don’t include the measure in its version of the budget, they need to explain why.

State Sen. Joan Lovely is not giving up.

Especially under policies and platforms which promote hate of anything which challenges the heteronormative belief systems, including media, education, political parties etc. AND those candidates and elected who choose silence, feigned helplessness and willful ignorance.
