Metal Detectorist Mick

Metal Detectorist Mick Just a guy who enjoys the thrill of the hunt by digging in the dirt and finding cool metal stuff. My name is Mick Burrow. There is no cost for this service.

I am a Metal Detectorist, Treasure Hunter, Historian and a Youtube creator. If you've lost an item such as a ring or necklace, or you are just curious of what treasures could be buried right under your feet, feel free to send me a message, email or give me a call. I have searched many properties throughout the Willamette Valley of Oregon and have made some amazing and astounding finds, dug up valu

able items and satisfied a lot of curiosity. As a former Crime Scene Investigator of 22 years, I utilized a metal detector and other techniques of finding evidence during many, many investigations. Now these skills are put forth to find lost items and hidden treasures. I use state of the art equipment and am meticulous with my methodology of recovery to insure landscaping and irrigation systems are not harmed. Historical records are also examined for additional documentation and back stories of historic relics.

At the new permission site and the Manticore uncovered it's first silver coin, a 1964 US Dime. Also hit on some deep targets that turned out to be a trash pit with intact bottles. The finds included two brown glass bottles minus the stoppers and a Fitch's bottle. You Google detectives will have to determine what a Fitch's bottle is and from what era. Metal Detector Sales thanks for the Maticore. Works great!

I found this spoon at a new metal detecting permission site yesterday. The brand of flatware is 1847 Rogers Bros. and this particular pattern had its first production in 1878. The site was either an old residence or a school house. I've gotten conflicting information but it's looking more like a residence with this find. The lot has been empty since atleast the late 1930s or early 1940s.

Metal Detecting is leveling up! Finally picked up a Minelab Manticore. In teaching photography I have always said equipment should be fresh and new, metal detecting is no different. It's Minelab's state of the art at the moment.

I secured a new detecting site after a couple months of research and finally tracking down the owner. I will be heading out tomorrow morning. The site is near Detroit Lake, Oregon and is the former site of a Civilian Conservation Corp camp from the early 1930s. There were several buildings there in two rows. Here they are on an old topographical map from 1958 versus what it is today. The structures were gone by the late 1980s and pretty sure this is virgin ground. Fortunately this is was not burned in the fires of 2020 and is outside the boundaries of the Army Corp of Engineers who govern the lake at the former town of Detroit at the bottom of the lake. The former town of Detroit under the lake is a protected archeological site. More to come.

I found this while detecting in a hazelnut orchard. It's a Massachusetts Militia button, and was only about 2" down. What its doing in Oregon is beyond me. I got some conflicting info I found and I'm having trouble pinning down the year. One said it was pre-civil war, the other was from around 1908. This land had a house on it and was gone as late as 1954. The ebay listing is just to show a similar one in like new condition. Seems to be a variation of the one I found.

Here are this weekends finds. Not sure what this one thing is. It's sterling silver and looks like a handle of some kind or maybe a berette. Any ideas? All the other oddities kept popping up again. This one thing that I believe had this glass lens in the end. Looks like a valve stem cap but its not threaded.

Sometimes life is rolling along finding all kinds of cool treasures and then you wake the next day and life has thrown you a curve ball. I've developed some severe sciatica and will be down for a bit recovering. Now I'm on an old man cane. In the mean time I will research some new places and gain permissions. Doctors say 6 - 8 weeks but hopefully less than that. It's rainy season here too so atleast I got that occurring while I'm down.
Dig on my friends. Mick
