The board approved revisions to the 2024-25 budget; 2025-26 budget; and salary schedules for the 2025-26 year. All schedules except superintendent were included. The schedule reflects a 20% increase to the bases, per state law and minimum wage requirements.

Flash flooding last weekend on Dent County Route TT caused further damage to the roadway and washed out new culverts placed recently at the low-water crossing. The road was already closed for more culvert replacements and was expected to reopen today, July 3, but the additional flooding will now extend that closure until the roadway is once again safe for motorists. The Missouri Department of Transportation now expects the roadway to reopen in mid- to late July.

A lot has changed for Scenic Rivers Industries (SRI) since the fire of Dec. 2024—but staff have made a home out of the new residence located at 1200 South Babb Lane, with new developments in the works and on the horizon. Cardboard recycling is once again back at the facility for commercial customers, while staff have also expanded into new products like emergency fishing kits, wooden furniture, and limited edition items.

Twenty years after its mysterious disappearance, students returning for fall classes at Salem High School this year will be welcomed by a sagely icon from the past. The welded metal tiger mascot that once prowled in front of the school’s gymnasium has returned with a new coat of paint and secure grounding near the building’s front entrance. Making the tiger’s return possible was the teamwork of David Blankenship, the school’s administration and several construction trades students.
