Utah fall colors are almost here, and these are the places I’d actually go to see them.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that there isn’t one magical “peak fall weekend” in Utah. The higher elevations start changing first, then the color works its way down. So I start in the Uintas and higher mountain passes and follow the color from there.

These are 10 of my favorite areas to have on your list:

Guardsman Pass + Bonanza Flat
Alpine Loop
Big Cottonwood Canyon
Mirror Lake Highway
Nebo Loop
Logan Canyon
Fishlake National Forest
Cedar Breaks + Brian Head
Highway 12 + Boulder Mountain
Trappers Loop + Ogden Valley

And because I don’t just want to tell you where to drive, I included a hike at every stop with the mileage and difficulty so you can actually plan a day around it.

The goal is a thoughtfully planned trip where the details are handled, the kids have an amazing time, and the adults still feel like they’re on vacation.

FREE national park day coming up

If a Utah national park has been sitting on your list, September 17 might be the day to go.

Thursday, September 17 is Constitution Day and one of the remaining National Park Service fee-free entrance days for U.S. citizens and residents in 2026.

Save these remaining dates:

September 17: Constitution Day
October 27: Theodore Roosevelt’s Birthday
November 11: Veterans Day

A few things to know before you go:

Entrance fees are waived, but camping, tours, reservations and other activity fees may still apply.

Some parks may also require separate reservations or timed-entry permits, so don’t assume “free” means you can just show up.

And yes, this includes Utah’s Mighty 5:
Zion
Bryce Canyon
Capitol Reef
Arches
Canyonlands

Planning a trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia? 🇭🇷 Save this mini cheat sheet.

Dubrovnik is so much more than the famous Old Town. Walk the city walls, take the cable car up Mount Srđ for incredible Adriatic views, swim at Banje or Šulić Beach, wander the little streets and get out on the water for sunset.

A few things I wish more people knew before visiting:

📍 Stay in Old Town for atmosphere and walkability, Ploče for views, or Lapad if you want beaches and a little more space.

☀️ May, June, September and October are my favorite times to consider. July and August are beautiful but HOT and very busy.

🚢 Check the cruise ship schedule before planning your Old Town day. Timing can make a huge difference.

👟 Bring comfortable shoes. Dubrovnik has a LOT of stairs.

⏰ Walk the walls early before the heat and biggest crowds arrive.

🌊 Leave time for the coast. A boat trip or sunset cruise was one of my favorite ways to experience Dubrovnik.
