This foundation wall used to be covered in carpet… brick is going to look a little better 😂

I started the install with all the top corner pieces, using my laser to make sure everything stayed level.

The outside corner was the tricky part. I didn’t have a brick wide enough to cover it, so I ended up mitering two pieces together. I still need to paint or stain that cut edge a red/grey color so it blends in with the rest of the brick.

Got all the tops finished in Part 1. Next up, filling in the walls 👌

The basement apartment is officially finished 🙌

I knocked out the last few things on the list. Installed a new microwave, painted the backsplash, installed the door k***s, got a new range delivered, and finally had the carpet installed.

I thought about tiling the backsplash, but honestly I have more important projects to get to 😂. Paint works for now and I can always come back and tile it later.

Feels good to finally call this project DONE.

I turned an existing closet in my basement apartment into a full bathroom for $4,236.

This video shows the entire project from start to finish while keeping a running total of what I spent along the way.

I started with an existing closet, gutted the space and worked through the framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, waterproofing, tile, flooring, paint, fixtures and all the finishing details needed to turn it into a functional bathroom.

I handled the majority of the work myself, which saved a significant amount on labor.

FINAL COST: $4,236

What do you think this bathroom would’ve cost if I hired a contractor to do the entire project?

The home gym is finally getting mirrors 👌

Instead of buying one huge expensive gym mirror, I combined three different 3-packs to cover almost the entire wall. These were some of the cheapest mirrors I could find, and I’m really happy with how they turned out.

I also installed a wall-mounted pool cue holder for the pool table while I was at it.

Doing something a little different with this foundation wall in my basement gym.

It used to be covered in carpet, but I definitely wasn’t putting carpet back on it. I scraped off all the loose carpet glue, then painted the upper wall Tricorn Black to give the room that classic gym look.

Apex Floor Designs recommended the thinset I needed to go over the remaining carpet glue, so I gave the foundation a skim coat to prep it for brick tile.

Next up, brick install 👌

The gym/man cave is coming together!

I finally found a sledgehammer that’s built for the kind of abuse I put my tools through. 💥 After breaking more than one handle over the years, this new 10lb. HEADLOCK™ Fiberglass Sledgehammer from Crescent makes a lot more sense. Time to finish tearing out this driveway.

The black wall completely changed the look of this basement gym.

I used Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black in eggshell. I cut in all the edges by hand because taping never seems to work as well as I want it to 😂, then rolled the rest.

I love how it turned out. The black wall gives it that classic gym feel and is going to look even better once I get all the equipment in here.

One of the first start-to-finish renovation videos I ever made.

This was the living room in one of my rental properties, and it ended up being a pretty crazy transformation.

I scraped the popcorn ceilings, ripped out the old carpet and found beautiful hardwood floors underneath, removed the wood paneling, hung new drywall, replaced the windows with one large window, and added can lights.

I hired out the drywall mudding, then painted everything and brought the original hardwood floors back to life. I sanded them down, filled the imperfections with wood filler, sanded again, and sealed them.

Finding those hardwood floors under the carpet was definitely one of the best surprises of this renovation.

Still one of my favorite before and afters.

My Patio Sank 3 Inches… So I Rebuilt It | Start to Finish

Years of uncontrolled gutter drainage caused the concrete to settle, and once it started sloping toward the foundation, the water problem only got worse.

In this video I’m showing the entire patio rebuild from start to finish.

I started by jackhammering and removing both corner slabs. Before replacing the concrete, I dug trenches and installed solid underground gutter drains to carry the water away from the house and down the hill into my lawn.

During demo I also discovered that several deck posts had been sitting in dirt between the concrete footings and the old patio. Some were completely rotted. I replaced the damaged posts and installed steel post bases so the new posts sit above the finished concrete.

To help prevent the new patio from sinking next to the house again, I drilled into the existing foundation and installed rebar dowels before setting my forms.

Finally, my dad and I poured and finished both new concrete slabs.

Instead of just replacing the patio, I wanted to fix the problems that caused it to fail in the first place.
