Thought I was adding a bathroom here… turns out it was a radon vent 😂

Had to completely change the plan and build a closet instead.

Here’s the full start-to-finish transformation.

Next up: turning the old closet into the bathroom.

Thought I was adding a bathroom here in the basement apartment… but I was wrong 😂

After jackhammering up the concrete, I realized the “toilet drain” was actually a passive radon vent. So the plans changed.

Instead of adding a bathroom there, I pivoted and turned the space into a closet for the bedroom. That meant patching the floor, framing, drywalling, mudding, texturing, and finishing out the new closet.

This video is the full start-to-finish process of building the closet after changing plans.

Next up, I’ll post the full transformation of turning the old closet into the new bathroom.

Sometimes renovations don’t go according to plan, but you just have to adapt.

Continuing the backyard project.

Part 2 of removing these massive pine tree stumps.

The Bobcat made quick work of the remaining stumps. In this video I pull out 3 more stumps and haul them away.

Could have paid for stump grinding, but ripping them out was a lot more satisfying to watch.

All 5 stumps are finally gone.

Removing old pine tree stumps.

I could have overpaid for a stump grinding service, but instead I used a Bobcat skid steer to rip them out. Worked way better than I expected.

In this video I get the first two stumps out. Definitely one of the more satisfying parts of this backyard transformation.

Continuing the backyard project.

I planted 5 trees. I picked these up from Costco, which is by far the best deal I’ve found for trees if you can get them before they sell out.

I planted 3 flowering plum trees and 2 flowering pear trees.

Luckily the dirt back here is pretty soft, so digging the holes wasn’t too bad.

Starting a new project… the backyard.

First step is cleaning up all the weeds and sagebrush so I can actually see what I’m working with.

After that, I’ll be planting trees, removing five massive pine tree stumps, digging up buried concrete edging, building a fence, adding gravel borders, and extending the lawn.

Continuing the basement apartment renovation.

Painted the bedroom walls and closet with Chantilly Lace.

Glad to get rid of the dark blue. The room already feels bigger and brighter.

Paint day 🎨

Painted the bathroom and the bedroom ceiling using my paint sprayer.

Used Chantilly Lace to match the rest of the house and keep everything consistent.

Back to working on the basement mother-in-law unit.

In this video I trimmed out the bedroom and new bathroom, then puddied and caulked all the nail holes in the trim and closet.

Now it’s finally ready for paint.

Full driveway extension in under 3 minutes 💨

Started by getting the curb cut, then removed all the sod, capped the sprinkler lines, demoed the old driveway edge, installed forms and rebar dowels, and finally poured and finished the concrete.

My dad helped finish the concrete and at 64 he’s still an absolute beast 💪

Really happy with how this project turned out.
