You’re going to miss something this way. Reassess. Get your hands on the patient. Listen to them. Paint the picture.

Patients aren’t just one picture, they’re a whole movie.

“Reward” is listed as one of the six things causing burnout according to research. Burnout is found in 76% of EMS personnel.

One solution? Be that partner. The partner that doesn’t let exceptional work go without notice. Sure, there are times when you can offer feedback and/or maybe some critique.

Follow the Sandwich Method:
Begin with a positive, offer critique, end with a positive. Be genuine, keeping an open mind to seeing things the way the other person sees them.

Whoa. They sent this to who? 🫪

Yesterday, the American College of Paramedics delivered a formal public comment to the National EMS Advisory Council. Four priorities. One message.

→ Recognize community paramedicine, treat-in-place & treat-and-divert as core EMS — with permanent federal reimbursement
→ Commission a national American Paramedic Competence Framework modeled on Canada’s proven system
→ Designate physical and psychological health infrastructure as the 16th element of every EMS system
→ Give the profession a formal advisory role in federal rural health policy

Paramedicine has matured. The infrastructure needs to catch up.

🚑 Happy EMS Week. EMS continues to prove it’s worth in public safety and healthcare year after year. This year is all about improving outcomes, not by way of a single agency, entity, or person, but together.

PARAMEDIA is proud to continue supporting agencies and organizations working to list the set-backs and provide solutions through enhancing visibility, content engagement, and hands-on support. Looking into the future, EMS is the most exciting profession to be in as it advances in medicine and structure alike.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13

While we often translate this to losing your life to save another, I also see this as love shown through setting your own time, your own personal life, aside for a while to better the lives of those you care about.

PIERCE Foundation did just that with the First Responder’s Mental Wellness Summit in Charleston, SC.

I’m blessed to have had a small part in the event and took a few moments to grab some snapshots. Video will come soon as well.

Thank you to all of the other volunteers for being so welcoming and helpful. This mission addresses the highest priority we have as public safety professionals.. the mental health of ourselves and others.
