Plein Air Texas EnPleinAirTEXAS is a national juried plein air competition hosted by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts What is EnPleinAirTEXAS?

EnPleinAirTEXAS is held annually in San Angelo, Texas. Artists from anywhere in the world can apply beginning January 1 of each year to be one of the 34 Competition Artists selected who compete for a week in October, painting outdoors, 'en plein air'. Applications are taken on the website, enpleinairTEXAS.com. Over $20,000 in cash awards are presented at "The STAMPEDE" - an Exhibit, Awards Party &

Sale at the National Historic Landmark, Fort Concho Stabels. The event is hosted by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, awarded numerous prestigious national honors; along with a colorful palette of talented and energetic volunteers and local artists. All proceeds benefit the Art Museum's education programs.

4 Artists will soon be selected to spend 3 weeks in 2026, LIVING & PAINTING on authentic West Texas RANCHES. was quite a hit in Easton, MD at the party for the Artists after the QuickDraw on Saturday!
A surprise downpour got the event started but the artists were undaunted, creating some fabulous paintings in 2 hours!
Congrats to All the artists for so many fantastic paintings during this great event!

The Quick Draw started out with a big RAIN right before it started but we are heading out to see what treasures we can find - then hosting ALL the artists after the awards studio for lite lunch & celebration!

After spending 3 weeks painting and living on a private West Texas ranch, Lon and the four other Ranch Fellows will present a juried exhibit & sale at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts on October 23, 2025.

Per Lon, “The landscape of the west is closely tied to the men and women that live and work upon it. I am drawn to the spirit of the working individual and the imagery that exemplifies the activity. I feel the responsibility of the artist is to strive to bring something new to the table. “
