Data Center Permits Detail Proposed Air Quality Footprint

SAN ANGELO, TX - Beacon Data Centers, appearing as Westline TX Holdings, have submitted their air quality permit to the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for their proposed construction in Tom Green county.

According to the application, they plan to generate electricity for the data center campus on-site, using internal combustion engines powered by natural gas to power the multi-gigawatt facility.

They anticipate an annual carbon dioxide emission of 1,177 tons per year, which according to the EPA is equivalent to a little over 132,000 gallons of gasoline consumed, or 1.3 million pounds of coal burned.

They also state that they plan to use on site diesel power generation as a backup, which would likely run for at least a half hour per month to ensure function, Beacon officials have said.

The proposal reads: "The permit will authorize construction of the data center and energy facility. The data center will not rely upon power from the grid, but rather, will operate using electricity that is generated onsite by the energy facility using natural-gas reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE)."

It concludes: "This application is being processed in an expedited manner, as allowed by the commission’s rules in 30 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 101, Subchapter J.”

According to that statute "if the applicant demonstrates that the purpose of the application will benefit the economy of this state or an area of this state" they may request an expedited approval process, for which the "executive director may add a surcharge for an expedited application."

A surcharge which "will be remitted in the form of a check, certified check, electronic funds transfer, or money order made payable to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)."

At a particularly fierce County Commissioners meeting last month, an officer for Beacon was present to answer questions from the court and the general public, having been asked to appear following a push to impose a moratorium on data center construction in Tom Green County's 4th precinct.

Police Say Woman Confessed to Brutal Homicide

UPDATE: June 25, 3:04 p.m. Police say that another individual, Mario Valdes Troncoso Jr, the father of the arrested murder suspect, has been arrested and charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence for his involvement in the concealment and disposal of the victim’s remains. Mario Troncoso will been booked into the Tom Green County Jail.

SAN ANGELO, TX - An anonymous tip received by San Angelo Police on the morning of June 24 revealed a brutal homicide, according to Police Chief Travis Griffith.

Audrey Troncoso, 31, was booked into Tom Green County Jail around 6 p.m. that same evening, charged with murder, her bond was set at $2 million. Troncoso has no prior arrests in Tom Green County.

THEATRE: What Does The Constitution Mean To You?

Opening Thursday, June 25 at San Angelo Performing Arts Center, local actress China Young stars in "What The Constitution Means To Me," a production that seeks to get people thinking about the laws that govern them.

Thinking about the United States Constitution, the law of the land, and about the decisions of our Supreme Court. And while one might expect a play like this to have a particular political lean, the reviews say that no matter where one sits on the political spectrum, there's a much larger story that applies to all Americans.

After all, the play was sponsored by both San Angelo's congressman, and by local civics groups, some of whom have staged protests criticizing that congressman.

Young began: "[The Constitution] is something we all have a relationship with whether we know it or not.

"We’re sitting there in a very politically divisive time, not knowing who believes what in the room, but in the end it doesn’t matter because all of this is relatable."
