What an amazing weekend at the **44th Annual Christmas at Old Fort Concho**!

Visitors stepped straight into the 1800s with the Winter Rendezvous, authentic campsites filled with hundreds of re-enactors, and period traders who brought frontier history to life.

Out on the Parade Ground, troops drilled, rode, and fired their weapons all day long. The artillery demonstrations (blanks, of course!) thundered across the fort and had everyone cheering! đź’Ą

Inside the fort’s original buildings, merchants and artisans from all over Texas and the Southwest offered one-of-a-kind gifts that made Christmas shopping easy and fun. The food court kept everyone fed, strolling musicians and staged performances kept the grounds lively, and the children’s area was packed with FREE crafts and activities for the kids.

Christmas at Old Fort Concho is the site’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps keep this National Historic Landmark alive and open for all of us.

Quick history: Fort Concho was headquarters for the 4th Cavalry (1867–1875) and then the famous “Buffalo Soldiers” of the 10th Cavalry (1875–1882). Soldiers from here fought in Mackenzie’s 1872 campaign, the Red River War of 1874, and the Victorio Campaign of 1879–1880.

The fort was abandoned in 1889. Restoration began during the Great Depression when the Fort Concho Museum was established. In the 2020s the City of San Angelo restored 14 buildings, including the reconstructed Barracks 3 and the mess hall of Barracks 4, which now house the new research library.

If you made it out this weekend, thank you for supporting living history! If you missed it… start planning for next year, because this event just keeps getting better.
