IBEW Local Union 500

IBEW Local Union 500 Representing members of CPS Energy and SAWS. in 1917 after the utility acquired the public transit division.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents approximately 750,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. The IBEW has
members in both the United States and Canada and stands out among the American unions in the AFL-CIO because it is among the largest and h

as members in so many skilled occupations. IBEW Local 500 was established in 1910 representing employees from San Antonio Gas and Electric Co., which then changed to San Antonio Public Service Co. SAPSCo was a privately owned company until 1942 when
federal anti-trust legislation forced SAPSCo's parent company to sell its holdings, which the city of San Antonio purchased only the gas and electric systems and changed the name to City Public Service. In 2005, City Public Service changed its name once again to CPS Energy. The City of San Antonio still owns the Utility and IBEW Local 500 now represents over 1,400 of CPS Energy's employees, mostly in the Wage Scale classifications. All non-management employees of CPS
Energy, as well as employees of other municipal, co-operative, and investor owned utilities or generation facilities are eligible and invited to be a part of this great Labor organization. In Solidarity,
