San Antonio Community Radio, Incorporated (SACR, Inc.) was formed by a group of community-minded citizens called Restore Our Voice Grass-Root Initiative. This initiative formed after Clear Channel discontinued KSJL-AM service to primarily African-Americans on February 1, 2007. The community was not informed about Clear Channel’s decision until they turned to the station and was presented with a different format. Further insult was given when the community was educated that the Federal Communication Commission laws do not require a radio station to inform its listeners when changing format or service. The community realized that it was important to determine and define what their voice would be and not have it sold from under them again. Thus the non-profit [501 (c) (3)], federal tax exempt community radio was created.
