Elica Redding, an Atlanta mother, met Lakesha Brown through a Facebook support group for pregnant women and new mothers. Over the course of a year, Brown offered free services and built Redding's trust, eventually becoming someone Redding felt comfortable enough with to babysit her two children, 4-year-old Zola and 11-month-old Norah.

On August 15, when Redding went to retrieve her children, Brown and both kids had vanished. Brown sent a photo of the children during the day to reassure Redding, then claimed they had been in a car accident and that DFCS had the children, before going completely silent.

After a two-day search involving Atlanta PD, the GBI, and the FBI, investigators used cell phone pinging technology to track Brown to an apartment complex in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood. Officers located a white tow trailer in the parking lot. When they banged on the doors, they heard a baby crying inside.

Officers cut the bolt off the back door and found both children and Brown sitting among blankets in a trailer with no air conditioning , only a ventilation system and a box fan — on one of the hottest days of the year, with temperatures reaching 97 degrees.

Brown has since been charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of child cruelty. Authorities say this is not her first offense. In August 2021, Brown allegedly used an identical social media scheme in Fairfield, Alabama, disappearing with a 4-day-old newborn. She posted bond in October 2021 and was not indicted until 2025 due to pandemic-related court backlogs. She later failed to appear for a court date.

Brown is currently held without bond at Fulton County Jail. Her next court date is September 10.

After five weeks of testimony and 38 hours of deliberations, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial Friday in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother charged with first-degree murder in the January 2023 strangulation of her three children; Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

The jury of nine women and three men sent a final note to the judge stating: ""It is with a heavy heart that we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision and will not be able to."" The panel had been deadlocked 11-1, with a single holdout juror reportedly refusing to follow the judge's instructions on reasonable doubt.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington made a last-ditch appeal to a higher court in a final attempt to avoid a mistrial, but an appellate judge denied the request within hours. ""I don't feel I have any choice but to declare a mistrial,"" Sullivan told a stunned courtroom.

Clancy does not deny causing her children's deaths but argued she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis and overmedication. Prosecutors maintained she acted deliberately, arguing her children were the only thing preventing her from ending her own life.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not yet announced whether his office will retry the case. Reddington, whose client faced first-degree murder charges, expressed confidence after the mistrial. ""Why would I do anything different? I won the case,"" he told reporters.

Patrick Clancy's attorney released a statement saying the prospect of another trial was ""extraordinarily painful."" The case sparked national debate over postpartum mental health and the criminal responsibility of mothers suffering from psychosis.

Corie Walsh, 40, of Frankfort, Illinois, was charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors allege she strangled her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, on Tuesday, September 2. A criminal complaint was filed Friday, September 5.

According to court documents obtained by CNN affiliate WLS, witnesses told prosecutors that Walsh had been ""very invested"" in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial and was actively discussing the case in a group text with friends as recently as 12:30 p.m. that Tuesday. The Frankfort Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive toddler around 4 p.m. Barrett was pronounced deceased at a New Lenox hospital around 5 p.m.

A neighbor who arrived at the home found Barrett hanging in the basement from a rafter with a ligature around his neck. She removed the ligature, administered CPR, and called 911. Walsh was found in an upstairs in a bathtub, having cut her wrists and thighs. Officers say she was actively attempting to harm herself when they arrived. The neighbor had already taken a knife from Walsh's hand.

Walsh reportedly told officers her son was the ""devil"" and the ""anti-Christ."" Preliminary autopsy findings indicate Barrett died from asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck.

Walsh's attorney stated her client was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the incident. Prosecutors have sought to deny pretrial release, citing statements Walsh allegedly made about intending to harm her other children and her husband. Three other children in the home were unharmed.

Walsh is currently held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility ahead of a detention hearing Tuesday.

Vicki Williams, a history teacher at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Wales, appeared in Swansea Crown Court on September 3 alongside the now-16-year-old student who stabbed her in the head during an after-school classroom encounter on February 5, 2026.

The teen, whose identity is protected due to his age, was convicted of wounding with intent and unlawful wounding in July, and was found not guilty of attempted murder. He was sentenced to four and a half years in detention.

Williams testified that the student had asked her to review his history assignment after school. When he entered her empty classroom and closed the door behind him, she grew suspicious. Moments later, he pulled a knife from his bag and lunged at her.

""He pulls it out of the bag and lunges at me,"" she told the court. She described the look on his face as ""pure hatred"" and said she genuinely believed she was going to die.

Another teacher heard her calling for help and intervened. CCTV captured the student fleeing the classroom immediately after.

In her victim statement, Williams said she is beginning therapy for PTSD and expressed disbelief that the attack happened at all. ""Leaving teaching should have been my choice to make,"" she told the court.

Judge Paul Thomas said the teen brought the knife to school with intent to cause serious harm. ""It was pure luck that she didn't have far worse injuries, even fatal injuries,"" he said.
