Today, we’re saying goodbye to Nick on his last day with Key Ideas.

Over the past almost four years, we’ve had the joy of watching him grow in so many ways. He started with us as a junior editor and became an incredible motion graphics artist, cinematographer, and editor whose work helped carry some of our biggest stories. From traveling to four different countries to capturing powerful footage just 20 miles from Ukraine, Nick stepped into every challenge with talent, courage, and care.

Nick is also a gifted country artist and award-winning musician, and we’ve been lucky enough to hear that talent shine through in our work, too.
More than anything, we’ll remember Nick as an incredible storyteller. He brought talent, creativity, care, and heart into every project, and our team is better because of it.

We’re deeply grateful for everything he’s brought to Key Ideas. While we’ll miss him a lot, we’re even more excited to see what’s ahead for him. We know this is only the beginning of an amazing next chapter.

Thank you, Nick. We’re proud of you, and we’ll be cheering you on! 💙

Filming outside can make a spot feel more real, natural, and alive, but it also adds a lot more variables.

For this Firstmark Credit Union shoot, that meant working with changing sunlight, unpredictable sound, shifting weather, and all the little things you cannot fully control on location.

It also meant keeping our cast and crew in mind every step of the way, because safety and comfort matter just as much as getting the shot.

A big part of the job is adapting in real time so the final piece still feels smooth, intentional, and effortless!

Two weeks ago, we talked about choosing the right target audience, because once you choose them, you’re choosing who the story is actually for.

For this Dual Credit Parent Support spot, we chose parents as our focus. We based everything on their real questions and concerns. They are the ones facing a challenge. Most of the time, they don’t need more information; they need a clear path and someone to help them move forward.

Be the Guide, Not the Hero means you don’t position your organization as the main character. Your audience has a problem they’re trying to solve. They want to feel like the one who overcomes it. Your job is to show up with empathy, a clear plan, and a next step that helps them move forward.

That’s the approach we use at Key Ideas. Our clients are the ones living the story. We help shape it, make it simpler, and guide it toward action.

Every person and organization has inherent value in their real, lived story. You don’t need hype or exaggeration. When told honestly and clearly, your true story already has the power to inspire and move people.

When you work with Key Ideas, that’s what we’re listening for. We’re here to find what’s already true, ask the right questions, and shape it into a clear story people can actually feel.

Want more of these Key Ideas? You’ll find them in Carlos Maestas’ book Mommy Lied to God: Life Lessons in Authentic Storytelling.

We’re excited to finally share our collaboration with ! Presenting “The Reflection of You”—a campaign that truly captures the essence of Our Lady of the Lake University.

We embarked on an incredible journey with OLLU, engaging in focus groups and testing various concepts until we arrived at this final piece. Swipe to see both—the final commercial and the AI-generated concept we developed during the focus groups.

Nestled by the serene waters of Elmendorf Lake, OLLU offers a campus experience like no other. The lake doesn’t just reflect the university’s iconic tower —it mirrors the dreams and aspirations of every student. In our favorite final shot, a student crouches by the lake, seeing themselves in their reflection with a graduation cap. This decisive moment encapsulates the journey of self-discovery and achievement.

A massive shoutout to OLLU for being a fantastic partner. We’re still working on some incredible projects together and can’t wait to share more. Stay tuned.

We’re excited to officially welcome Issac to the Key Ideas team! 🎉 He started with us as an intern through the Alamo Work on the Job program, impressed us with his skills during his contract work, and now he’s with us full time as an editor. We’re so happy to have him on board and can’t wait to see his creativity shine!

Issac Dowden is a Louisiana born and bred, but Texas based Indie Film Director, Photographer, and Artist. He has a background in musical theatre and film acting, and is a graduate of the Digital Video and Cinema Production program from Northwest Vista College. He draws on this eclectic artistic background as he continues to pursue film production. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Operations Management, and continuing to allow curiosity to drive his exploration and hunger for knowledge.

Welcome to our team Adriana, our new Production Coordinator. You might recognize her from a few months ago when she was the lead actress in our short film for The Nonprofit Council.

Adriana, a self-proclaimed TexaRican, began her passionate journey for the arts at the ripe age of 5. Her curiosity, attention, and support from her family allowed her to explore many forms of it, two of which she kept close to her heart: music and film.

After graduating from Texas State University with a BA in Communication Studies (Interpersonal Comm), she began pursuing her acting career professionally. During this time, she acted in an inspirational and deeply moving Non-Profit PSA that the crew of Key Ideas was producing. Lucky for me, excuse me, third person, "her," she was brought back, but to work in all the behind-the-scenes productions.
