📓 This Is Bigger Than Me 📓
I took this picture years ago, before life had really had a chance to hurt me. Before I knew what it felt like to carry certain things, to question myself, or to let other people’s choices and opinions take up so much space in my life. I remember this moment so clearly. Free falling, smiling ear to ear, completely terrified and completely free at the same time. But the best part was that I was doing something I wanted to do. No one asked me to. No one was going to benefit from it but me. It was on my bucket list, and I decided I was going to check it off. I was living for me.
There is something about that woman that I keep thinking about lately. She wasn’t waiting for permission to experience her own life. She wanted something, so she went after it. She was willing to be scared. She was willing to jump. She trusted herself enough to find out what was waiting on the other side of fear. And somewhere along the way, life got heavier. I learned things I wish I hadn’t had to learn. I let people hurt me. I let people make me question who I was. I gave people access to parts of me they had not earned, and somewhere in all of that, I stopped living quite so freely.
I don’t want to do that anymore. I want that feeling back. Not because I want to escape the life I have now, but because I want to feel fully present in it again. I want to chase experiences that make me smile like this. I want to finish the bucket list. I want to say yes to the things that scare me and no to the things that drain me. I want to protect my peace without feeling guilty about it. I want to be selective about who gets access to me. And I never want someone else’s version of me to become louder than my own.
I know what it feels like to be completely free, even if it was only for a few minutes in the sky. I remember that woman. And I think it’s time I become her again. Not the woman I was before life happened. The woman who learned from it, survived it, and finally decided she gets to live for herself again. That’s the kind of freedom I’m chasing now. And nothing less.
