Midnight Movie Trash Crashes Big Texas Terror — And Horror Fans Love It
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Day three of Big Texas Terror at the Henry B. González Convention Center had everything a horror fan could want: creepy icons, indie filmmakers, and enough gore talk to make your grandma faint.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, Uvalde Radio Rocks caught up with Daniel, the man behind the horror review and convention coverage brand Midnight Movie Trash — a name that perfectly sums up his love for the weird, wild, and wonderfully bloody side of cinema.
Daniel had only been at the convention for a few hours, but he had already checked one big item off his horror bucket list.
“I got to meet Doug Bradley,” he said. “Getting a photo with him and talking to him a little bit — that was awesome.”
Bradley, of course, is the legendary actor behind the nightmare-inducing Pinhead in the cult horror classic Hellraiser. For fans who grew up with the film’s twisted blend of horror and dark fantasy, meeting him is practically a rite of passage.
But Daniel wasn’t just there as a fan — he was working the floor, interviewing indie filmmakers and keeping his finger on the pulse of the Texas horror scene.
“San Antonio and Austin have a lot of talented filmmakers,” he said. “There’s a lot of great stuff coming out of Texas right now if people take the time to check it out.”
Among the projects getting buzz is the slasher throwback Butcher’s Bluff, an Austin-made horror film designed to feel like a lost VHS tape from the golden age of ’80s slashers.
Daniel has been covering the horror scene for years through Midnight Movie Trash, reviewing films, attending conventions, and interviewing the creators behind indie genre projects. Now he’s finally taking the plunge into filmmaking himself.
After more than two decades of thinking about it, he’s working on his first short horror project.
“At some point you just have to do it,” he said. “You’ve got the gear, you’ve got the connections — so why not?”
Of course, horror fans never stop arguing about the big franchises either. When the conversation turned to the newest entry in the Scream franchise, Daniel admitted he’s still catching up but has been watching the fan reaction closely.
And like every horror fan worth their salt, he already has his eye on the next wave of chaos coming to theaters.
At the top of that list is the next installment in the ultra-violent Terrifier franchise.
“That series is not for the faint of heart,” he laughed. “Each movie somehow manages to outdo the last.”
Between horror conventions, film reviews, and upcoming interviews, Midnight Movie Trash is gearing up for a busy year on the genre circuit. Daniel plans to cover events like Houston Horror Film Fest and other Texas horror gatherings where fans can celebrate everything from classic monsters to the latest indie bloodbath.
For Daniel, it all comes down to one thing: supporting the genre and the creators who keep it alive.
And if the crowds at Big Texas Terror are any indication, horror in Texas isn’t dying anytime soon — it’s just getting louder, bloodier, and a whole lot more fun. 🩸🎬👻
