Years ago, my oldest, who is on the Autism Spectrum, really needed me. He didn’t have all the language he has today, and he didn’t understand how this world worked. I was his homeschooling teacher, along with my daughter and youngest son.
I always worked really hard in my career as a social media strategist, but I would find myself pulling back whenever I reached a specific limit. At the time, I didn’t realize I had a limit. Now I know that I was drawing a boundary or setting a standard.
Every time I felt like I didn’t have the proper time to invest in my kids’ homeschooling, or even the simple things like sitting at the dinner table and eating with them, I would naturally pull back from my work and choose not to take on so much.
It felt like a constant tug-of-war.
I would get more work and grow, but then I would grow too much and pull back because that growth was tied directly to my hours. More hours working meant fewer hours with my kids and hubby.
Now I realize what I was doing. I was internally saying, “It’s okay to have $5K months if that means I can still prioritize what I love and what I’m passionate about.”
Work will ALWAYS be there.
Homeschooling my kids and spending valuable time with my family are things I can never get back.
But I also knew that one day my kids would be grown, and I would no longer be homeschooling them. And that day, my dear friend, is when I would pursue $20K+ months.
This year, I’ve slowly been building out something that can help me reach that goal. My 21-year-old son, who is on the Spectrum, is now in college. My 19-year-old daughter is a leader in her community. My 15-year-old son is in college as well and almost finished with high school.
In this season, $20K months may not be worth it for you. Not because you’re not capable. Believe me, you are capable.
It may be because your kids, your other half, and your sanity are more valuable right now. The beautiful thing is $20K months will still be waiting for you five years from now. 🤍
